BetUS NCAA Betting Odds: OKLAHOMA STATE -18, Total 48

Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

  • COL has lost nine of its last 12 games SU
  • COL has covered six of its last 21 road games
  • COL has lost its last five road games SU
  • COL has played six of its last nine road games UNDER the total
  • OSU has covered four of its last five games
  • OSU has won seven of its last eight games SU
  • OSU has played four of its last five games UNDER the total
  • OSU has won four of its last five home games SU

It's the third game in a 13-day period for Colorado, which appears to be playing out the string, and maybe even the end of Dan Hawkins' tenure as head coach, as some alumni are trying to pool some money together to buy out his contract.

Hawkins has done his best to stem the tide by removing his son Cody as starting quarterback. Of course, a lot of people think that was too little, too late as his son, in their opinion, should not have been the starter in the first place.

Many recruits, like Darrell Scott, who was the most highly-regarded freshman running back they had in a long time, was unhappy about the amount of playing time he got last year and this year, and has left the program.

Tyler Hansen (3 TD's, 4 INT's) sometimes plays well, and sometimes doesn't. He does appear to be an improvement, at least as a passer, over what Cody had to offer, with 529 yards in the last two games. Colorado's offensive line has allowed 38 sacks this year, which hasn't helped them much in the NCAA betting odds.

Teams have been relatively efficient against Colorado's defensive unit, which has allowed 30 points or more in five of the last seven games, and they have only had to gain 13 yards for every point scored.

Oklahoma State's offense is not as high-octane as it was last year, with Zac Robinson at the controls and Dez Bryant out there grabbing passes down the field, but the running game did excel against Texas Tech, chewing up 243 yards and getting great balance between Keith Toston (76 yards), Kendall Hunter (68) and 99 yards out of Robinson himself.

We know that Robinson is capable of better than 9-for-21, which is what he did against the Red Raiders last week. The big question is how ready Robinson will be after suffering a mild concussion in the latter stages of that game.

OSU has had some success in the home favorite's role in the NCAA betting odds (11-2 ATS in last 13). I have seen Colorado capable of pulling off a surprise, as they did when they trailed West Virginia by just four points going into the third quarter earlier in the year, or when they beat Kansas or Texas A&M.

Teams with underachieving coaching staffs often find themselves particularly challenged when they have a short week, and the Buffs got clocked by Toledo the last time this happened (54-38 in the season's second week).

Oklahoma State is less dysfunctional and has plenty to play for at the moment, but we can't have all the faith in the world in Robinson and his offense to pull away, and if Alex Cate had to be used in his place, the offense would be set back.

Besides, the Buffs have more backdoor capability with Hansen than Hawkins. The only pasting by more than 20 points Colorado suffered was at the hands of second-ranked Texas. We'll take the underdog Buffaloes, getting 18 points in the BetUS NCAA betting odds.
