BetUS NCAA Betting Odds: FLORIDA -45, Total 54

Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

  • FIU has covered one of its last five games
  • FIU has lost seven of its last ten games SU
  • FIU has played 12 of its last 18 games OVER the total
  • FIU has lost eight of its last nine road games SU
  • FIU has played eight of its last ten road games OVER the total
  • FLA is 1-4-1 ATS in its last six games
  • FLA has won its last 20 games SU
  • FLA has played six of its last eight games UNDER the total

Florida has become one of the most prolific rushing teams in the country, averaging 231 yards a game and a whopping 5.3 yards a carry. Jeff Demps is the most explosive part of that attack, as he is averaging 7.3 yards a pop. Tim Tebow is not having himself a Heisman Trophy season, but he has added 604 yards, and has thrown for 1730 more.

It's the defense that has been the engine keeping Florida in the #1 slot; the Gators have allowed only 234 yards a game, which is slightly behind Texas in the NCAA rankings, and leads the nation in both pass efficiency defense and scoring defense.

The Panthers hung in there for a half against Alabama and didn't let things get out of hand against Rutgers the next week, but FIU can't run the ball (101 yards a game) and this gets even worse for them now that Darriet Perry is out for the remaining two weeks.

Paul McCall and Wayne Younger are going to share quarterback duties for FIU in this game, and you just know this can't be good. FIU gives up more than five yards a carry and has surrendered 40 points or more on five occasions. That can't be good either.

T.Y. Hilton, who burned Alabama with a kickoff return for a touchdown and looked like an explosive device early, has tallied just one TD and caught 15 passes in the last six games.

Neither team has necessarily done very well in the NCAA betting odds, but his Florida program often comes to play against the other schools in the state of Florida, covering seven of the last eight meetings. This is a team that has taken a more conservative offensive approach and let its defense do the talking, and has lacked the kind of firepower the Gators have had in recent seasons.

Of course, the flip side is that FIU is in the same conference as Troy, is not in the same class, and Florida walloped the Trojans 56-6 in the second game of the season. This is an opportunity for Tebow to pad his stats as he seeks the Heisman again. Yes, he wants it, and his coach wants it for him.

We're going to lay sizable points here with the Florida Gators, the 45-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA betting odds for college football.
