The Rebels enter this game having won four of their last five, including last weekend’s lopsided 42-17 smack down of Tennessee. They are led by junior quarterback Jevan Snead who has been good this year, just not quite the Heisman Trophy candidate many expected. He has thrown for 17 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on the season, after passing for 26 and 12 in 2008. The key to the Rebels offense though will be the play of Dexter McCluster, who not only had career highs last week, but also set Ole Miss records with his 282 yards and 324 yards of all purpose offense. Even if McCluster is half as good as last week, it’s hard to see the Rebels not being able to move the ball.

As for Ole Miss’s defense, they simply have one of the most underrated units in college football. They are led by a deep and fierce defensive line featuring end Kentrell Lockett and defensive tackle Jerrell Powe. Also, it is important to note that one of the leaders of this group- defensive end Greg Hardy- is out for the year with a wrist injury.

Speaking of injuries, LSU enters this game as battered and bruised as any team in the SEC. Two weeks ago against Alabama, leading rusher Charles Scott was knocked out for the season with a shoulder injury, and quarterback Jordan Jefferson sat out last week as well. While Jefferson will be back Saturday, his sprained ankle still isn’t fully healthy, limiting his mobility in the pocket. He’ll rely on a strong offensive line to protect him in the pocket.

On defense, LSU is greatly improved under first year coordinator John Chavis. The Tigers are currently ranked 10 th in college football in scoring offense allowing just 13 points per game. While their total yardage is a bit high (311 yards per game), they are phenomenal in the red zone, as they have the 15 th best red zone defense in college football.

In this game, the key factor will be both teams running games. Will LSU have any without Scott? And will Ole Miss be able to exert theirs with McCluster. Whoever answers that question better will win this game.

Personally, I expect Ole Miss to cover the college football point spread. They are healthier and playing well, and remember their head coach has beaten LSU two years in a row, once at his old job at Arkansas, now at his new one in Oxford. There’s something about Nutt and his offense which just gives LSU fits. In my eyes, Nutt will have LSU coach Les Miles’ number again, for the third year in a row.

Aaron’s Pick: Ole Miss -4
