Your Last Minute BCS Championship Preview!
By Tim Furious
It’s Heisman versus Heisman! The Big 12 against the SEC! Tebow clashing with Bradford! The culmination of the entire college football betting season comes to a head as Oklahoma and Florida meet in a BCS Championship game you can actually get excited about. The SEC has surely dominated the BCS picture in recent years, but if the Sooner have proved anything, it’s that they aren’t about to back down from any challenge yet…not until that trophy is theirs.
Bradford already has one notch on his belt, but securing the Heisman award from fellow candidate Tim Tebow. If helping his team average 354.3 passing yards and an astonishing 53.3 points per game, most of which he was chiefly responsible for, then you’re delusional (or completely wasted already…wooo, tailgate!). The Sooners are a dangerous team because their aerial attack runs flawlessly, even if their defense doesn’t get the job done.
On the other side of the field stands Tim Tebow, the full-back posing as a quarterback. As soon as Tebow strayed from his bulldozing ways, the Gators’ moxy sank in The Swamp. Now that he’s back decimating the esteem of line-backers and safeties, the Gators are undefeated in their past five games. As a betting team, they haven’t been the best team to side on this year, but they are certainly carrying a truck load of momentum in to this matchup.
College Betting Trends
-Florida is 5-0 SU in their past 5 games
-Florida is 4-0 ATS in their past 4 games
-Oklahoma is 5-0 ATS in their past 5 games
-the game has gone in the OVER in Oklahoma’s past 5 games
The Sooners’ number-one scoring offense will slam in to a defensively minded team that allows only 12.4 points against per game. Florida’s defense has always been predicated on speed, and tonight will not be an exception. As they did against Bama, the Gators will use their speed on the edges to try and confuse Oklahoma’s offensive line and blast Bradford from tearing their secondary apart.
So they only real question is whether Oklahoma can get on the board early. The Gators only give up 172.9 passing yards against, though they haven’t faced someone of the caliber of Bradford yet this season. And let’s not forget Bradford’s thumb has been giving him troubles…
Florida Gators (12-1) vs. Oklahoma Sooners (12-1)
Thursday, January 8th --- Dolphin Stadium, Miami --- 8:15pm EST
NCAAF Betting Line: Florida -5.5 (69.5)
Ever since Bradford’s thumb injury came to light, the point spread and the O/U have both dropped. Florida went from a -1.5 point favorite to a -5.5 point favorite. My only concern, besides Oklahoma’s sometimes soft defense, is Tebow actually having to win “the big one”. Bradford is cool-as-a-cucumber when it comes to the big game. It’s like the heat of the spotlight doesn’t faze him at all.
Can you say the same thing about Tebow? The last time he “won” the BCS Championship against Ohio State, Chris Leak was the actual starting quarterback. As great as Tebow can be, he’s still not a true quarterback. Oklahoma’s defense bends, but tends not to break too often. Unless Tebow can cause some critical damage with his arm, Florida’s in more danger than the average betting man thinks.
When the dust settles in the FedEX BCS National Championship game tonight, there are going to be a massive crop of upset betting investors who overestimated Tebow’s ability. The truth is that Bradford’s skill set has been underrated as Tebow’s star power hogs the spotlight. With the pressure on to prove himself, both as a playmaker, and a winner in his own right, I think the intangible x-factor in this game is how Tebow reacts to the pinnacle moment in his football career. Sorry to say this, but its’ Bradford’s time to shine.
