Alamo Bowl - Alamodome, San Antonio - Saturday, December 30th, 4:30pm ET

Iowa Hawkeyes (6-6) vs. Texas Longhorns (9-3)

Opening Line: Texas -11 (53)

Both quarterbacks in this game are coming in to the matchup as questionable. A game headlined by two disappointing teams is less question of talent and more so a question of which team can overcome the strife of underachievement.

Iowa’s Drew Tate has been shouldering injuries all season, and the Hawkeyes have suffered because of it. They went 2-6 in the final stretch of the season after starting 4-0. Tate has thrown a 4:3 ratio of scores to picks.

The Texans aren’t the same team that stuffed Bush and USC last year, but they are still a well-coached team defensively. They’ve only allowed 59.8 rushing yards per contest, but have been vulnerable in the secondary.

If Tate is looking to rebound his season, then he might as well do so against a secondary that allows 233.1 passing yards per game.

The Texans have their own problems at quarterback. QB Colt McCoy was having the season of a lifetime, before suffering an injury on a goal-line quarterback sneak play. He’ll be going up against adefense that allows 202.0 passing yards, but is far more suspect to the ground game.

The Hawkeyes allows 138.9 rushing yards, and Longhorns’ tandem of RB Jamaal Charles and Selvin Young will have a field day running all over Iowa’s lame defense.

Look for Texas to control the clock by running the ball as much as they can, with a constantly fresh committee. Tate will throw two picks as he tries to be a hero in a losing cause.

Iowa is 1-10 ATS, 5-6 OU.

Texas is 5-6 ATS, 5-6 OU.

Iowa – 14

Texas - 27
