Navy Shipmen vs. Ball State Cardinals in Furious Football Action

Bookmark and Share by Tim Furious

Preview

Navy destroyed Towson 41-14 behind the deft rushing of Shun White. Now they have to set sail against the Ball State Cardinals, a team trying to justify the humming hype concerning their BCS chances this season. For those of you who can’t wait until Saturday to start your college football gambling, then the Furious Friday Night Free Picks is here to save you!

Navy Offense vs. Ball State Defense

Running-back Shun White stormed Towson for 348 yards with an 18.3 yards-per-carry average along with three touchdowns. Navy is a frustrating run-first team that thrives with the option play. Quarterback Jarod Bryant literally had four attempts, completing two of them for an uninspiring 44 yards.

However, it’s the specialized Navy option style of play that allowed Bryant to also average 4.4 yards per carry on 75 yards and one rushing touchdown. Though he won’t throw often, he’ll be able to move the chains using the magic in his ankles.

The question remains if Ball State has the defensive personnel to anchor the shipmen. They allowed 93 rushing yards when playing Northeastern, allowing only two runs above 15-yards and giving up only 2.9 yards per carry. Their fast and fierce defense will have to play smart and put their linebackers in hot pursuit to crash down on Navy’s scheme.

Ball State Offense vs. Navy Defense

Nate Davis was near perfect last weekend completing 21-for-24 passes for a stunning 290 passing yards with three touchdowns. His utilizes a deep set of receivers, highlighted by deep threat Dante Love, who has no equal on the Navy defense. Last weekend, Ball State felt the Love with 9 receptions, 171 yards receiving and a touchdown. You can expect more of the same as Love breaks Navy this Friday night.

MiQuale Lewis leads the way for the ground attack, backed up by his trust handcuff Cory Sykes. The two of them totaled 126 rushing yards for two touchdowns on only 17 carries. To say that the will tear through Navy’s often undersized line-backing corps is an understatement.

NCAA Football Betting Trends

-Navy is 5-1 SU in their last 6 games

-Navy is 15-4 ATS in their last 19 road games

-Ball State is 4-1 SU in their last 5 games at home

Final Verdict

The Shipmen are a crafty team that is hard to predict because they run the same freaking play every down. While that may drive some people insane, Ball State won’t fall for their antics. Take the Cardinals with a tight line at home in OVER, because as tempting as it is to say that they will shutdown Navy’s predictable offense, it works for a reason.
