Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs. Kansas Jayhawks

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

Both clubs enter the second week of the college football wagering season 1-0 as Louisiana Tech came up with a SU home underdog victory over SEC representative Mississippi State, while the Jayhawks barely broke a sweat upending Sun Belt member Florida International to start their 2008 campaign in style.

College football bettors can view this NCAAF online betting affair from Memorial Stadium on FSN.

La Tech is coming off a 22-14 upset of Mississippi State on Saturday. The victory was its first over a BCS conference squad since a 20-19 victory over Michigan State way back on September 13th of 2003, and first against an SEC team since an upset of No. 18 Alabama at Tuscaloosa back in ‘99.

"You can't get too excited, even though we're going to celebrate this win," coach Derek Dooley told the school's official Web site. "I always preach consistency. One game doesn't make a team. Good programs go week to week."

They closed as seven-point home pups with the ‘total’ set at 44 combined points. The Bulldogs took advantage of three Mississippi State turnovers in the third quarter to pick up the victory, but this club still needs to shore some things up if they expect to go into Lawrence and pull off the shocker.

Of most importance for them in this spot will be ball security since they turned it over three times last week. Do that this week, and they could get rolled. That said; they’ll have their hands full on their first road trip of the season as the program hasn’t fared very well on the road against BCS schools losing 12 in a row by an average of 37 points per game.

The Jayhawks were pointspread gold in 2007, which caused the CFB betting public to back them regardless of how high the spread climbed last week. The line eventually closed at (-36), and the 40-10 victory was a bittersweet one for Jayhawk bettors regardless of their eighth straight victory within Memorial Stadium.

"We got a win, which is the most important thing, but I think we have room for improvement," Kansas coach Mark Mangino said. "In the first game you find out a little bit about your team, who's in the right spots and where we have to tweak things."

QB Todd Reesing wasn’t sharp in his season debut after throwing for more touchdowns (33) and yards (3,486) than any passer in school history. He finished 37-of-52 for 256 yards and three touchdowns - all to sophomore WR Dezmon Briscoe.

The running game also faltered churning out just 66 total yards after averaging close to 100 per game last year. What was great was the defense that limited the Golden Panthers to just 139 yards of total offense. With the win, Kansas is now 18-5 SU under HC Mangino vs. non-conference opponents in the regular season with the average margin of victory ringing in at 18 PPG.

The NCAAF betting trends show that LA Tech’s a poor 9-21 ATS their L/30 road games, and a poor 4-12 ATS their L/16 overall non-conference games. They’re also 0-4 ATS the L/4 times they’ve squared off against a Big 12 representative, and 3-8 ATS their L/11 games in September. Kansas is 8-2 ATS their L/10 home games, 5-1 ATS their L/6 non-conference affairs, and 4-1 ATS their L/5 vs. the WAC. The Jayhawks upended the Bulldogs in their most recent meeting by a 34-14 final count as 14.5-point home favorites back in 2005.

The Jayhawks currently sit as lofty 21.5-point favorites in this spot with the ‘total’ currently at 52.
