Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Boston College Eagles
by Charles Jay

The Boston College Eagles (1-0 SU & ATS), coming off a shutout win, will try to make it two in a row as they take on the rebuilt Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech (1-0 SU, 0-0 ATS) in an Atlantic Coast Conference game in NCAA college football that begins at Noon ET at Alumni Stadium (artificial turf) in Chestnut Hill, MA.
BetUS NCAAF Betting Odds: BOSTON COLLEGE -7, Total 38.5
Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
* GT has covered four of its last six road games
* GT has played four of its last six road games OVER the total
* BC has covered two of its last seven games
* BC has won 13 of its last 16 games SU
* BC has played its last five games UNDER the total
* BC has covered one of its last five home games
* BC has won 19 of its last 21 home games SU
Georgia Tech warmed up for the season with a 41-14 win over Jacksonville State, and the option attack installed by new coach Paul Johnson rambled for 349 yards and 7.6 yards a carry. The Yellow Jackets even threw the ball 15 times. But Josh Nesbitt, who has completed 40% of his 25 career college throws, had better get more proficient in a hurry to develop a second "option," because in Boston College the Jackets have drawn one of the NCAA's toughest teams to run against.
Last year the Eagles allowed only 2.4 yards a carry and 75.5 yards a game, allowing just three teams to reach the 100-yard plateau and only one to gain more than 3.4 yards a clip. Furthermore, two of the standout players who were missing from that unit are back this year. Defensive tackle B.J. Raji, who had made second-team All-ACC two years ago, had academic problems last season, and Brian Toal, a legitimate All-American candidate at outside linebacker, returns from an injury. This group stymied Eugene Jarvis of Kent State, who had more yards than any returning running back this year, to only 51 yards.
What we're trying to say is that if the Georgia Tech offense is still a work in progress, this is not a place where that one tuneup game is going to do the trick. It's likely that before all is said and done, coach Johnson is going to have to juggle a few people to find the right combination, and we're far from convinced that Jonathan Dwyer, despite his 112 yards on eleven against Jacksonville State, is going to provide the big answers here.
Meanwhile, don't expect BC to be explosive through the air in only their second game without Matt Ryan. But senior Chris Crane has poise, and is a run-pass threat, so he adds a different angle to this offense. And with an emphasis on minimizing turnovers, Crane may pout the Eagles in less compromising situations this year than the gun-slinging Ryan.
Johnson is too good a coach for Georgia Tech not to eventually pass a lot of tests. But this is not going to be one of them. Without a "Plan B," we see the Jackets stifled one too many times, leading to Boston College covering the seven-point spread in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
