It's battle on the way to the Commander-in-Chief trophy, as the Navy Midshipmen (3-2 SU, 2-2 ATS) go out west to square off against the Falcons of Air Force (3-1 SU, 3-0 ATS) in NCAA college football betting action that is set to get underway at 4 PM ET at Falcon Stadium (natural turf) in Colorado Springs.

Saturday, October 4

BetUS NCAAF Betting Odds: AIR FORCE -6

Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* NAVY has won seven of its last ten games SU

* NAVY has covered 16 of its last 22 road games

* NAVY has won 11 of its last 16 road games SU

* NAVY has played six of its last eight road games OVER the total

* AF has won six of its last eight games SU

* AF has won seven of its last eight home games SU

Also....

* NAVY has covered eight of the last nine meetings

* NAVY has won the last five meetings SU

* The last four meetings have gone UNDER the total

* NAVY has covered three of the last four meetings as the road team

Navy has shown some mastery in this series, covering eight of the last nine meetings between these teams, and has won and covered the last five encounters. So we're inclined to grab the points with the Middies, who currently rank second in the nation in rushing yards (335 per game - 6.1 ypc), and has also defended the run better.

Neither team is known for putting the ball in the air (74 passing attempts COMBINED), so it's almost frivolous to talk about which team might have the edge in a prospective air attack. But whether it's regular starter Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada (hamstring injury - hopes to play Saturday) or Jarod Bryant, we're confident Navy's option can continue to operate at full strength.

Remember, there has been some attrition on both sides of the ball on the part of Air Force, which doesn't have the quickness on defense it had last season, evidenced by yielding 974 yards in the last two weeks. We're not necessarily knocking anything Shea Smith has done at the helm in replacing Shaun Carney, and the Falcon run game is unusually balanced, but there is no big play threat like Navy's Shun White (693 yards), who is anxious to atone for his 20-yard effort against Wake Forest (a 24-17 Navy win, incidentally).

Under the circumstances, we're happy to grab the points with the Midshipmen, the six-point underdog in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.

JAY'S PLAY: NAVY +6 ***
