NCAA Football Betting – Heisman Hopefuls on the Bubble

Bookmark and Share by Tim Furious

Earlier we presented the top-5 Heisman Trophy candidates for this year after Week 2 of NCAA College Football wagering. Those aren’t the only superstars in the making. Along with our top-5 Heisman rankings, BetUS will present other big players to keep an eye on as the season rolls along.

But that’s not all! In this section we will also bring you those players you should stay away from when wagering in our NCAA college football futures. Anything can happen in the coming weeks, but these are some guys to keep your eyes on.

IN THE MIX

Tim Tebow (QB) – Florida Gators

The top rated prospect out of high school two years ago is now the main man on campus in Gainesville, and he’s playing like it too. With 536 passing yards, complimented by a bullish 131 rushing yards, Tebow has already lit up the scoreboard for 9 total touchdowns. The Gators are contenders for the title again, and if Tebow plays as steady as he is expected to, his odds of winning the Heisman will be on the rise.

Next game: Tennessee vs. Florida (-10.5)

Sam Bradford (QB) – Oklahoma Sooners

You can’t argue with Bradford’s production. With 568 passing yards and 8 touchdowns, he might be worth a flier in our NCAA football futures but be cautious. There is still a lot we do not know about him. It’s only two games into the season and Bradford has a lot to prove. So far, however, so good.

Next game: Utah State vs. Oklahoma (-48.5)

Colt Brennan (QB) – Hawaii

One word describes Colt Brennan in a nut shell: overrated. Look at his 964 yards and 10 touchdowns and, sure, your eyes may bulge out of your skull. But he plays for Hawaii! Timmy Chang shattered college football records playing on the islands. And you know where he is? The CFL where he is struggling to keep a starting job. Quarterbacks in Hawaii’s program are like running-backs on the Denver Broncos. Big stats, mediocre skills and always overrated as individual players.

Next game: Hawaii (-17) vs. UNLV

IN THE MUCK

Mike Hart (RB ) – Michigan Wolverines

Voters rarely give this award to a standout on a big team that loses to two massive underdogs in the first two weeks. As much as I like Mike Hart, I can’t count him as a Heisman hopeful anymore. Neither should you.

Next game: Michigan (-3) vs. Notre Dame

Ian Johnson (RB) – Boise State

Johnson and the blue-turf-boys took a big hit when they lost to Washington, and Johnson’s measly 81 yard performance with no touchdowns didn’t help matters. Voters don’t forget things like that, and neither should the smart online betting investor.

Next game: Wyoming vs. Boise State (-13.5)

Steve Slaton (RB) / Pat White (QB) – West Virginia Mountaineers

Here’s my beef with these two. They are both great players, but they also compliment each other too well. West Virginia’s success can’t be attributed to either player because one is not great without the other. White has 563 total yards and 7 total touchdowns (four passing, three rushing) and is a playmaker.

But Slaton will steal votes from him, and vice versa. Slaton is putting together a solid campaign with 255 yards and six total touchdowns. Nothing against these two, but they don’t give out two Heisman trophies per year, so both of these guys will remain on the outside looking in.

Next game: West Virginia (-16.5) vs. Maryland
