NCAA Football BCS Bowl Games
by Mike Rose

The 2008-09 bowl betting season has commenced with a bang at BetUS Sportsbook! Wake Forest, Colorado State, South Florida, Arizona, and Troy State all won their respective bowl games over the weekend, and there’s plenty more CFB bowl betting left to be done over the next couple weeks.
BetUS Sportsbook is pleased to release all BCS Bowl lines, totals, and props for the upcoming games, so be sure to login to your account for all your BCS Bowl betting.
The Rose Bowl opens up the BCS slate on New Year’s Day at 5:00 ET in sunny Pasadena, CA, and USC currently sits as a nine-point favorite with a game ‘total’ of 45. JoPa’s Penn State Nittany Lions enter this Big 10/PAC 10 showcase 11-1 SU and 7-3-1 ATS on the year. Pete Carroll’s USC Trojans own an 11-1 SU mark, but they split those 12 games ATS to cost college football bettors vigorish on the year.
The Nittany Lions come into this match-up a perfect 5-0 ATS the L/5 times they’ve squared off against a non-conference opponent, but they’ve failed to bite for the CFB betting public the L/6 times they were installed an underdog by posting a poor 1-5 ATS mark. USC has dominated the Big 10 going a stellar 8-0 ATS the L/8 confrontations and posted a 5-1 ATS mark its L/6 overall bowl games.
We couldn’t have asked for a better match-up to kick off the BCS Bowl betting festivities. Expect the sledding to be tough for both offenses as Penn State and USC boast stop units ranked amongst the top five in the country. The ‘under’ is 4-1 ATS the L/5 times the Nittany Lions were tagged as underdogs, and it’s cashed in 5 of the Trojans L/7 meetings against a Big 10 opponent.
Next up on the docket is the Orange Bowl that pits the Big East champion Cincinnati Bearcats (11-2, 6-6 ATS) against ACC champ Virginia Tech (9-4, 5-7 ATS) at Dolphins Stadium in sunny Miami, FL. Cincy head coach Brian Kelly won at Central Michigan before making the trek to Ohio, and in just two short years has a school more known for basketball in the football programs biggest bowl game ever. VTECH head coach Frank Beamer is used to the spotlight of these big bowls, so expect him to have his men ready to win their fifth game in their last six tries. BetUS Sportsbook oddsmakers don’t expect that to occur though since Cincinnati currently sits as short 2.5-point favorites with a game ‘total’ of 41.5.
This is a big step up from the PapaJohns.com and International Bowls that Cincinnati won but failed to cover the last two years. VTECH seemed to hit its stride to close out the year with nice wins over Maryland, Virginia, and Boston College in the ACC Championship Game. If QB Tyrod Taylor and frosh RB Darren Evans continue their excelled play in this spot, the Hokies should snap their two game bowl losing streak. Take a stab with the Hokies on the $$$-Line for a nice value wager!
BetUS BCS odds for the Sugar Bowl find the Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1, 9-4 ATS) installed as heavy 10-point Louisiana SuperDome favorites over the Utah Utes (12-0, 7-3-1 ATS). Alabama found themselves a quarter away from competing in the BCS Championship Game, but squandered the lead and the game in the final quarter of the SEC Championship game against Florida. Utah was one of only two teams to enter the bowl season undefeated. Utes Head Coach Kyle Whittingham and his squad got a few scares along the way, but they managed to win them all and capped the season off with a thrashing of BYU in the Holy War.
The Utes have been pointspread gold in the second season cashing ATS in 5 of their L/6 bowl games with the lone loss coming last year in the Poinsettia Bowl, but Alabama’s a perfect 5-0 ATS its L/5 games when installed the favorite. This might look, taste, and smell like Boise/Oklahoma from a couple years ago, but this games being played in SEC territory and head coach Nick Saban will have his men ready to destroy this Mt. West opponent. You can bet your bottom dollar replays of the infamous hook-and-ladder the Broncos pulled off in regulation against the Sooners will be replayed over and over just to give the Tide a reminder that anything can happen if an opponents overlooked. Lay the 10-spot with confidence!
I’ll be back next week to thoroughly breakdown the Fiesta Bowl match-up between Texas and Ohio State and the BCS Championship game between the Sooners and Gators. Until then, be sure to visit BetUS Sportsbook on a daily basis to keep track of the line movement for all the remaining college football bowls…
