NCAA BCS Bowl Game Predictions

Huge upsets in Week 7 of the 2009 NCAA Season has led to some changes in the BCS Bowl Championship Series predictions.

Nebraska, Virginia Tech and South Florida all went down. That’s made things look different than last week.

Let’s take a look.

Week 7 Predictions: BCS Bowl Championship Series

Rose Bowl Game Presented by Citi

1/1/2010

Oregon Ducks vs. Iowa Hawkeyes

The Oregon Ducks have already beaten the California Golden Bears and only need to win out in order to win the Pac 10 Championship. Their one loss, to Boise State, will keep them out of the BCS Championship Game, but the Ducks are a mighty fine team. They’ve been on a tear since Boise State, ending Utah’s winning streak, beating Cal 42 to 3, and thumping UCLA in Pasadena 24 to 10. If they get by USC on 10/31 then they should have no problem beating the rest of the teams on their schedule.

The Big Ten Championship should come down to whoever wins the game between the Iowa Hawkeyes and Ohio State. The stats say Penn State, who has been rock solid since their loss to Iowa. The Hawkeyes could stumble against Michigan State this weekend or some other bad Big Ten team, but Penn State figures to stumble again as well. I’m going with the Hawkeyes.

Predicted bowl game odds: Oregon -6 ½

Allstate Sugar Bowl

1/1/2010

Florida Gators vs. TCU Horned Frogs

I’m taking a big stand in this one. By putting Florida in the Sugar Bowl, I’m saying that they lose to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship Game. I just have that feeling about ‘Bama this year.

South Florida, my pick to face the Gators in this game, lost to Cincinnati last week. The Gators will now face TCU who figures to go undefeated as they don’t really face a team that can challenge them. Unfortunately for the Sugar, TCU shouldn’t put up much of a fight against the second best team in the SEC in 2009.

Predicted bowl game odds: Florida -17 ½

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

1/4/2010

USC Trojans vs. Boise State Broncos

USC will lose to Oregon, that’s my prediction, but even a 2 loss USC team will be hard to pass up for the Fiesta Bowl folks. I mean, they get all of the Trojan fans from L.A. to visit them in Phoenix and all of the Boise State fans? Also, putting Boise State up against arguably the best college football program in the nation is something that nobody could really pass up, right?

Boise State will get the short end of the stick again. The Broncos will go undefeated in the regular season but because they only beat one ranked team in 2009, Oregon, other teams are going to fly by them and into BCS Championship Game contention.

Predicted bowl game odds: USC -10 ½

FedEx Orange Bowl

1/5/2009

Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Cincinnati proved that they are indeed one of the best teams in the NCAA right now. Unfortunately for them, the Big East doesn’t get a whole lot of respect by the BCS Bowl Committee which means the Bearcats end up out of the BCS Championship Game and exactly where they did last year, in the Orange Bowl.

Georgia Tech lost to Miami but beat Virginia Tech. Miami has to play South Florida later on this year, a potential loss, and Georgia Tech should destroy whomever they face in the ACC Championship Game. The Yellow Jackets get the nod…for now.

Predicted bowl game odds: Cincinnati vs. Georgia Tech pick

Citi BCS National Championship Game

1/7/2009

Texas Longhorns vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

Texas beat the one team that could possibly challenge them in the Big 12, the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma State is without their top player, wide receive Dez Bryant, and there’s no indication that he will return any time soon.

Kansas proved that they have no defense when losing to the awful Colorado Buffaloes and Nebraska just got beat by Texas Tech. So, the Longhorns will end up facing a team that they have already beaten or should beat in the Big 12 Championship.

Alabama could be unbeaten going into the SEC Championship Game. They already beat South Carolina, and face Tennessee and LSU next, but they get the Gators and Volunteers Tuscaloosa. They then play Mississippi State on the road and Auburn on the road. The schedule isn’t easy, but ‘Bama is as good, in my opinion, as Florida. I expect Alabama to turn the tables on the Gators in the SEC Championship Game because Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide no doubt have learned from last year’s SEC Championship Game loss.

Predicted bowl game odds: Alabama -6 ½
