Heisman Watch – Tebow vs. Bradford

Bookmark and Share by Tim Furious

Why Tebow Will Challenge

Tebow’s impassioned speech in front of his Gator betting faithful kept him in Florida for one more season, and rejuvenated the Gators. Last season, the Gators tried to convert Tebow in to a true passing quarterback. The result was a 5-1 SU record, with a loss to Mississippi. Tebow had 10 passing touchdowns, and three rushing touchdowns with mega yards, but no conviction that the Gators could compete in the Bowl Games.

With a big SEC gauntlet run in the middle of their season, and Tebow’s Heisman hopes on the line, the coaching staff unleashed Tebow on the ground. Tebow finished the season with 2,746 passing yards and 42 total touchdowns to lead the Gators to the second-overall spot in the rankings and a win in the FedEX BCS Championship game over the guy he lost the Heisman Trophy to. For that reason, Tebow is our favorite.

There was major fear that Tebow couldn’t last forever being a full-back posing as a quarterback. Not this year. Tebow will be gunning for a top draft spot and can’t leave anything off the table this year.

Why Bradford Will Repeat

As good as Bradford was in 2008, it wasn’t enough to lead his Oklahoma Sooners to a BCS Championship. Losing the FedEX game 24-14 to the Florida Gators, and his chief rival in Tim Tebow, Bradford will come back this year with a bad taste in his mouth and a point to prove.

That point is simply this: The Heisman is his to lose…and he deserves to be the number-one overall draft pick.

Bradford put up 4,720 passing yards and a whopping 50 touchdowns with only eight interceptions to lead the Sooners to the top overall ranking in the country across the board, granting them a BCS Championship berth. However, the Sooners are still underdogs to the Gators to win the championship, and Bradford finds himself as an underdog to Tebow in our sportsbook future odds.

The Oklahoma City native had eight games where he posted four or more touchdowns. On top of that, at just 21 years of age, Bradford has nowhere to but up. The fear is, however, that he has built up mystique so that there is nowhere to go for him but down. However, at 6-foot-4 and 218 pounds he is the prototypical NFL quarterback. He has incredible vision, a tank’s canon attached to his shoulder and shows consistence like no other in the league. His lone loss last year was to the Texas Longhorns, a game where he still managed 387 yards and 5 touchdowns. Even in a loss, Bradford showed greatness.

And in the wake of his loss at the BCS Championship, Bradford will show exactly why he deserves your vote of confidence in the Heisman race. Are you ready for college football betting?
