College Football Week 13 Recap
Two of the three biggest games this week involves teams ranked in three out of the top four BCS spots.
The Texas Longhorns and Nebraska Cornhuskers face off this upcoming week in the Big 12 Championship with more at stake than just the Big 12 crown. Texas, the #3 ranked team in the BCS need only to beat Nebraska in order to march into the BCS Championship game.
The reason that Texas is in such a great position is because either Alabama or Florida is going to knock the other out of the BCS Championship game because they face each other for the SEC Championship.
The other game with huge meaning? How about Oregon versus Oregon State with a trip to the Rose Bowl on the line.
Texas Surpasses Texas A&M and Nebraska Beats Colorado
The Texas Longhorns secured a trip to the Big 12 Championship by virtue of their victory over the Texas A&M Aggies.
It wasn’t an easy game for the Longhorns who failed to cover the 20 point wagering spread but still came out on top 49 to 39 against their top rivals.
Texas needed an incredible game from likely Heisman Trophy winner, Colt McCoy. McCoy threw for 305 yards and 4 touchdowns and rushed for 175 yards and another touchdown. That’s how good McCoy was in leading the Longhorns to the victory.
He might have to be just as good this Saturday in order for Texas to beat a well put together Nebraska Cornhuskers’ team.
It’s only Coach Bo Pelini’s second season with the Cornhuskers but the former LSU defensive coordinator has already made a huge impact on this program. Nebraska does have three losses on the season, but they’ve stepped it up when they’ve had to and did so again this past Saturday when facing their biggest rivals, the Colorado Buffaloes.
The Cornhuskers, like the Longhorns, didn’t cover the spread, but did just enough to beat Colorado, 28 to 20. Nebraska looked good as 9 ½ point road favorites and even though they failed ATS, they did do enough to perhaps make some Texas fans slightly worried.
Nebraska isn’t as good as Texas is on paper, but they play with a lot of heart for Coach Pelini and Texas has had some problem in games this season. If the Longhorns were to lose to Nebraska, then expect Texas Christian University to end up in the BCS game against either Florida or Alabama.

Florida and Alabama Look Good Going into the SEC Championship
The two best teams in college football, according to the BCS Rankings, the Florida Gators and the Alabama Crimson Tide, battle it out in the Georgiadome this Saturday for not only the SEC Championship but the right to play in the BCS Championship.
The defending champion Florida Gators are bigger than expected 4 ½ point favorites to beat the Crimson Tide for the second straight time in the SEC Championship. Florida was exceptional this past Saturday when pasting Bobby Bowden and the Florida State Seminoles 37 to 10. The Gators dominated Bowden’s team every which way, racking up 545 total yards and holding the Seminoles to under 300 total yards at 281.
The Gators face a team that should give them a challenge in Alabama. Nick Saban’s group didn’t look all that great in the Iron Bowl against rival Auburn this past Saturday, but they did enough for a 26 to 21 victory.
After Auburn’s Leigh Tiffin put the Tigers ahead 21 to 20 on a field goal. ‘Bama QB Greg McElroy found Roy Upchurch in the end zone with only 1:24 left on the clock to give the Crimson Tide the lead again.
‘Bama went on to beat the Tigers to set up one of the more anticipated SEC Championship games in history. This should be some battle when Florida QB Tim Tebow takes the field against, arguably, one of the top defenses in college football.
The SEC title, a trip to the BCS Championship and for some players like Tim Tebow, a legacy building opportunity…all of it exists in this year’s SEC Championship game. What more could a college football fan ask for?
Oregon vs. Oregon State Battle for a Rose Bow Berth
For the first time in it’s history, the yearly rivalry game pitting the Oregon Ducks against the Oregon State Beavers will provide the Pac 10’s representative in the 2010 Rose Bowl.
Oregon, playing at home, is a 9 ½ point favorite over the rival Beavers. The Ducks took the week off after their dramatic victory over the Arizona Wildcats, 44 to 41, in overtime.
The Beavers took the week off as well after thumping Washington State 42 to 10 in their last game.
Although the NCAAF sportsbook hasn’t come out with college football betting odds on the total yet, expect this game to be a barn burner. Oregon State has scored 31, 48 and 42 points in their last 3 games. The Oregon Ducks have put up more than 40 points in five straight games.
This is going to be a fun one to watch.
