College Football Wagering: Ohio State vs. Penn State

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

This is actually an easy one to call. I chose to go against Ohio State last weekend; they were giving up 17 points to Michigan State, so why wouldn’t I go against them this weekend they are giving up 4.5 points, on the road, against a team that may be superior to them?

Ohio State, like Boston College, has secured a top BCS ranking by beating up on soft opponents. I don’t think that’s going to happen this weekend as Penn State will close the deal versus the Bucks, something that Virginia Tech couldn’t do versus the BC Eagles Thursday night, by not only beating this spread but winning this game outright.

Here’s a trend for you:

NCAA Football Betting Trend: In their last 11 meetings, the home team is 10 and 1

What this implies is that, unlike a lot of the games in the SEC, this Big-Ten match-up usually pits two teams with similar styles and talent together. When two teams with similar talent is pitted against one another the home-field means something more than usual.

That’s the case here. Penn State has all ready faces Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. Ohio State has not had to play a team yet that is comparable to one of those three.

That gives Penn State a huge edge in this game. The Nittany Lions have a more seasoned quarterback, a good offensive line, and a terrific defense.

Yes, it appears that Ohio State has all of those things as well, but they haven’t faced a defense quite like this one.

The Nittany Lions D will frustrate Bucs’ QB Todd Boeckman, all day and they will shut-down whatever run game the Bucs try to muster.

The BetUS line is the Penn State Nittany Lions + 4.5 at home versus the Ohio State Buckeyes. Take Penn State and the points and then put a small wager on the money-line. Penn State is a great team at home.
