College Football Dog House Heading into Week 13
by Charles Jay

As I reflect on the BetUS NCAA football betting world over the course of the past week, several teams have gotten under my skin and are in my doghouse. Here's who I'm ranting about from their miserable performances that cost their teams victories against the college football point spread last week.
QB David Shinskie, Boston College Eagles: Not that it would've ultimately mattered, but when the Eagles lost to North Carolina, any hopes of catching Clemson in the ACC Atlantic Division were smashed. But really, you've got to get better out of your quarterback in this situation if you're Boston College. Shinskie went just 12/28 for 101 yards with a touchdown and four picks, but he was also sacked five times for -43 yards. Even though the sack yards all count as rushes not passes, for all intents and purposes, BC only mustered 58 yards out of its passing game and turned the ball over six times. That just won't get it done for anyone hoping to make a conference championship game.
K Daniel Murray, Iowa Hawkeyes: C'mon kid, make your extra points. Even though the Hawkeyes had no business failing to cover the spread against the Golden Gophers, that was the situation that they ended up in thanks to a botched extra point at the end of the first half following the game's only touchdown. In fairness, Murray has had a great season for Iowa, as he is 18/25 in field goals and 29/30 on extra points, but that one missed point after really stuck it to anyone that laid the closing number with the Hawkeyes.
The offensive line of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights: Really, what in the heck were you guys doing out there on Saturday? QB Tom Savage had absolutely no chance to accomplish anything standing in the pocket, as he got sacked nine times and was forced into a ton of poor decisions. It's not like this was a vaunted defense like Nebraska's, Ohio State's, Iowa's, etc. This was Syracuse. Syracuse! The nine sacks tied a school record, and the end result was a 2-1 time of possession advantage and a 31-13 victory for the Orange on Senior Day. At least it was one decent outing for a 'Cuse team that hasn't had a heck of a lot to cheer for in 2009. More importantly though, it was an embarrassment for a team ranked in the AP's Top-25 to lose a game to a team this poor.
HC Mark Mangino, Kansas Jayhawks: Hey Coach, maybe if you spent less time worrying about what everyone is saying about your football program and more time worrying about how your team is playing on the field, you'd stick around in a few more games. But no, in a week where Mangino was defending himself in the media, he obviously wasn't worried about the Longhorns. The end result was Texas dropping a 51-20 beat down on KU. But don't worry, Coach. There's only one more loss that you'll take on your resume before you're probably dismissed from your post just a few years after winning a BCS game.
