College Football Bowl Recap

There are three games left on the 2008 – 2009 College Football Bowl Schedule, but only two of those games are BCS Bowls.
Monday night’s Fiesta Bowl, and Thursday night’s BCS Championship, will showcase the three top ranked teams in college football - - Texas in the Fiesta Bowl and Oklahoma and Florida in the BCS Championship.
But one team sort of staked their claim for the top spot even though their regular season loss to an unranked team means that they have no chance of garnering any votes. That would be the USC Trojans who proved once again that they are one of the best teams in college football for sports betting fans by trouncing the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Let’s start with the Rose Bowl in our Bowl Week Re-cap!
Rose Bowl: Penn State vs. USC - - The Trojans were phenomenal early in this game racking up a 31 to 7 lead at halftime. But Pete Carroll obviously called off the dogs, nobody wants to embarrass Joe Pa, and Penn State sort of got back into this game by losing by only 14 points to the Trojans. Still, the online betting line was 9 ½. So, USC covered against the BetUS online wagering spread.
Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati - - The Cincinnati Bearcats went into this game ranked 13th in the nation and boasting an 11 and 2 record. Their record against the BetUS online wagering spread wasn’t all that solid. Well, Virginia Tech showed how playing a tough schedule can prepare you for bowl games by beating the Bearcats 20 to 7. As 2 ½ point underdogs against the spread, the Hokies easily covered.
Gator Bowl: Clemson vs. Nebraska - - Bo Pelini not only coached the Nebraska Cornhuskers into a bowl game, he coached them into a New Year’s Day Bowl Game as well. This was a tough one but the Cornhuskers prevailed straight-up by a score of 26 to 21. They also beat the Tigers against the spread since they were 2 ½ point online college football wagering underdogs.
Capital One Bowl: Michigan State vs. Georgia - - The Georgia Bulldogs in this game were favored by 9 points in the BetUS online sportsbook but won by 12, 24 to 12, and solidified their position as one of the better teams in college football. Or, did they? It was a horrible Bowl Season for the Big-Ten but the SEC did very well…so far.
Outback Bowl: South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Iowa Hawkeyes - - The Gamecocks committed way too many turnovers and failed to get back into this game until late while the Iowa Hawkeyes never left. The online betting spread was 3 ½ points in Iowa’s favor. They didn’t disappoint by thrashing the Gamecocks 31 to 10.
Cotton Bowl: Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech - - This was my best against the spread bowl bet of the entire bowl season and thank goodness I won it! The Ole Miss Rebels were 3 ½ point online wagering underdogs in this game but easily beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 47 to 34. Ole Miss showed that the SEC is still the best conference in college football.
Sugar Bowl: Utah Utes vs. Alabama Crimson Tide - - Okay, maybe the SEC isn’t the best conference in football after Utah went into New Orleans and just ransacked the Crimson Tide. Now, before everybody talks about how bad the Tide is, let me just write that they were down to their third string left tackle. Still, Alabama’s defense had no business allowing the Utes to build up a 21 point lead. Alabama was favored by 9 ½ points in this game. Losing to Utah by a score of 31 to 17 made a lot of college football betting fans very unhappy.
Other College Football Bowl Games of Note - -
Insight Bowl: Minnesota vs. Kansas - - Minnesota played a spirited game for a quarter but talent won out in this one when the Kansas Jayhawks covered a 9 ½ point BetUS online wagering spread by beating the Golden Gophers 42 to 21.
Sun Bowl: Pittsburgh vs. Oregon State - - The team that beat the goliath that is USC could only muster 3 points but that’s all it needed as the Pitt Panthers were just terrible in this game. The Beavers won 3 to 0 and covered the 2 point online betting spread in one of the worst bowl games in college football history.
Music City Bowl: Boston College vs. Vanderbilt - - Vanderbilt showed the Eagles how to play SEC defense by holding BC to only 14 points. Because the Commodores scored 16, they won this bowl game straight-up as 5 point underdogs against the spread.
Chick-Fil-A Bowl: LSU vs. Georgia Tech - - Georgia Tech was the ranked team and online betting favorite in this game but LSU turned out to be the much better team. The online wagering spread was 4 points in the Yellow Jackets favor. The Fighting Tigers of LSU paid no attention by beating Georgia Tech 38 to 3.
Holiday Bowl: Oregon vs. Oklahoma State - - The Cowboys played great in the first half as a 1 point BetUS online sportsbook favorite. They built a 17 to 7 lead, but then that Oregon Ducks offense kicked it into gear and Oregon scored 5 touchdowns in the second half. The Ducks won the game straight-up and against the spread by a score of 42 to 31.
