College Football Betting - Missouri Tigers vs. Oklahoma Sooners

by Mike Rose

While most sports betting fans believe that the BCS finally sorted out the mess in the Big XII, the chaos is inevitably just beginning en route to the National Championship game in January. By just over 0.01 in the BCS rankings, the Oklahoma Sooners (11-1, 9-2 ATS) earned the right to do battle with the Missouri Tigers (9-3, 5-6 ATS) in the Big XII championship game at Arrowhead Stadium.

It’s assumed that a Sooners victory will send them to Miami for the BCS Title Game, while the Tigers will be looking to spoil the party much like Oklahoma did to them last year. In last season’s Big XII Championship, the Sooners ended Missouri’s title hopes by beating them 38-17. The Sooners have won six straight games in this series, but are just 3-3 ATS during that stretch.

The Tigers fell flat in their regular season finale against Kansas even though the game was relatively meaningless. The Jayhawks knocked Missouri off 40-37 in come-from-behind fashion to spring the huge upset as 16-point underdogs per the closing college football betting line.

QB Chase Daniel had a sub-par performance in his final regular season game, going 25/41 for 288 yards. He did throw four touchdown passes, but was picked off twice. He added 103 yards on nine carries. WR/KR Jeremy Maclin had 209 all-purpose yards.

There has never been a doubt over how good the Missouri offense is. The unit ranks 6th in the nation churning out 509.4 yards per game, and also ranks 4th in both passing yards (344.2) and points scored (45.0). Daniel hopes that a strong performance will send him to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist for the second straight year. He has thrown for 3,880 yards and 34 touchdowns in his senior season.

Oklahoma struggled for over three quarters with Oklahoma State, but finally shook its rivals from Stillwater and beat the Cowboys 61-41 in the 2008 edition of Bedlam. Sooners bettors picked up their fifth straight victory, while ‘over’ bettors in OU games won their eighth straight game and now stand an impressive 10-1 ATS on the season.

The voters and computers rewarded Oklahoma for its offensive production of late, as the unit has scored 60+ points in four straight games and has scored at least 45 points in all but one game this season.

QB Sam Bradford may have locked up the Heisman Trophy by accounting for 386 total yards of offense and five touchdowns against Oklahoma State, and now has 50 total touchdowns to go with his 4,080 passing yards on the season. The Sooners rank in the Top-3 in the nation in total yards (556.7), passing yards (354.2), and points per game (53.3).

The Sooners have been tabbed as 17-point favorites by the oddsmakers who are expecting yet another high scoring Oklahoma game, as the ‘total’ has been set at a lofty 78.5.
