The Gators suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, losing 70-83 in a shocker against Vanderbilt. On Wednesday, they will host the lowly Gamecocks and hope to set history on a multitude of levels. History aside, can South Carolina continue its steady 12-9 ATS record against the even 10-10 ATS Gators?
On January 13th, these two clashed and Florida skinned the Gamecocks 84-50. But these Gamecocks are different, showing fight and flash behind Tre’Kelley’s 18.3 points per game and 5.0 assists. The Gamecocks ended a five-game losing skid with an 81-64 victory over terrible Tennessee, and hope to keep playing strong against the defending NCAA Champions.
The glaring stat here is that Florida averages a whopping 81.0 points per game, while only allowing 61.0 points against. South Carolina usually musters only 64.9 points per game, so the nineteen-point spread the Gamecocks are staring down is reasonable.
Look for Florida to come out blazing and motivated. Forward Joakim Noah can become a 1,000 point scorer on Wednesday, while Florida can best the home-wins record set last year and in 1985-86 with a victory. The Gators can also set a record for most wins in a season with just one win, and there is no easier team for them down the stretch then the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks are coming off a great victory over Tennessee, but in Gainesville, they will be playing the welcome mat to Florida’s history breaking night. Talk about the wrong place at the wrong time.
