NCAA Basketball Betting – North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Michigan State Spartans

by Mike Rose

The Palace at Auburn Hills will be the site of Wednesday night’s premier showdown on the college basketball betting slate, and BetUS Sportsbook will have all of the sports betting action covered in the game between the North Carolina Tar Heels (7-0, 3-2 ATS) and the Michigan State Spartans (4-1, 2-2 ATS).

UNC is the nation’s unanimous choice as the #1 team in the country, while the Spartans come in at #13 in this week’s AP Poll. This will be the first regular season clash between these two squads since 2000, but they have met twice in the NCAA Tournament since then. UNC won both meetings, including an 81-67 victory in the 2nd round of the 2007 tournament, covering the spread as 10-point favorites.

The Tar Heels have come out of the blocks like a house on fire. They have scored at least 77 points in each of their first seven games, averaging a whopping 96.9 points per game, the 2nd best mark in the nation. In UNC’s last game, it destroyed UNC-Ashville 116-48. All five starters scored in double digits, paced by G Ty Lawson’s 22 points and eight assists. The only Tar Heel noticeably absent from the lineup was F Tyler Hansbrough.

The All-American didn’t take to the floor for the first time this season until Carolina’s third game of the season, and in spite of the fact that he has only played a limited number of minutes this year, expects to be ready for the game with the Spartans. In his last game with Michigan State, Hansbrough tallied a whopping 33 points and nine rebounds.

After opening up the season losing two of their first three NCAA basketball betting decisions, the Heels rolled off three impressive performances in the Maui Invitational, averaging beating their three opponents by almost 30 points per game easily covering their two lined games in the process.

Michigan State responded to its brutal 80-62 loss to Maryland on Thanksgiving Day with two straight victories in the Milk Challenge Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. In their last game of the tournament, the Spartans picked up a critical non-conference 65-57 victory over Wichita State. They held the Shockers to just 38% from the field and only allowed one player to score in double digits. F Marquise Gray only played about one half of basketball, but he paced the Spartans with 12 points and eight rebounds. Michigan State out-rebounded Wichita State 39-22.

If Spartans bettors are to pick up another victory, it’ll be on the strength of F Raymar Morgan. He leads the team in scoring racking up 17 points per game. G Kalin Lucas has scored in double digits in all but one game this season.

Oddsmakers have installed the Tar Heels as 10-point neutral site favorites, with the ‘total’ coming in at 168.

The college basketball season is just getting into full swing now, and BetUS has all of your NCAA betting options available to you from the opening tip through the end of March Madness. Login to your account today and take your place in all the action!
