Big East Power Poll - Pitt and Villanova are the Big Cats
by Mike Rose

1: Pittsburgh Panthers (12-6-1 ATS, 23-2 SU) (8-4 ATS, 10-3 SU in Big East) (LW: 3) Two more Big East foes came to Pittsburgh last week, and two more foes fell victim to the powerful Panthers. That’s four straight covers and six out of seven for Pitt. All of the marbles in the Big East will be on the line this week when it travels to Connecticut in what could be a battle of the top two teams in the entire nation.
This Week: Away @ Connecticut, Home vs. DePaul
2: Villanova Wildcats (13-8 ATS, 20-5 SU) (8-4 ATS, 8-4 SU in Big East) (LW: 1) Villanova’s online betting roll of eight covers came to a close on Friday the 13th with a disastrous 93-72 loss in Morgantown. There’s no reason to believe that the Wildcats won’t get back to their winning ways soon. Rutgers has to contend with ‘Nova’s 6-3 ATS mark in Philly this week.
This Week: Home vs. Rutgers, Away @ Syracuse
3: Seton Hall Pirates (12-7 ATS, 14-10 SU) (8-4 ATS, 5-7 SU in Big East) (LW: 6) Seton Hall continues to rocket towards the top of the Big East Power Poll, and is starting to assemble a decent resume for the NCAA Tournament. A 62-54 loss against UConn shouldn’t hurt too much, but the five wins before it should. That’s eight out of ten victories ATS for the Pirates.
This Week: Away @ Marquette, Away @ St. John’s
4: Louisville Cardinals (14-10 ATS, 19-5 SU) (9-3 ATS, 10-2 SU in Big East) (LW: 2) The Cardinals suffered their second loss on the conference slate in a crushing 90-57 pounding in South Bend, but responded by absolutely obliterating DePaul. All three of Louisville’s ATS losses in conference have come in its L/5 games, so it will be interesting to see whether it rights the ship in time for the Big East Tournament.
This Week: Home vs. Providence, Away @ Cincinnati
5: South Florida Bulls (13-10 ATS, 8-16 SU) (7-5 ATS, 3-9 SU in Big East) (LW: 5) The Bulls didn’t stand much of a chance against Providence, but came back and gave the Irish everything they could handle in a ten-point loss that was much closer than the final score indicated. That win snapped a streak of four out of five ATS defeats, but things this week are going to be much more difficult.
This Week: Home vs. Georgetown, Away @ Connecticut
6: Marquette Golden Eagles (10-9-1 ATS, 21-4 SU) (7-5 ATS, 10-2 SU in Big East) (LW: 4) After starting off the conference season at 7-2 ATS and 9-0 SU, the Golden Eagles are 0-3 ATS and 1-2 SU in their L/3. Two of the Big East bubble teams are on deck, which is a reprieve in the schedule compared to what else is remaining: UConn, Louisville, Pitt, and Syracuse.
This Week: Home vs. Seton Hall, Away @ Georgetown
7: Rutgers Scarlet Knights (9-7 ATS, 10-15 SU) (6-5 ATS, 1-11 SU in Big East) (LW: 8) The Scarlet Knights aren’t winning games, but they’re continuing to be a frisky squad for NCAA basketball betting. They’ve covered four out of five against some quality opponents in the Big East. Unfortunately, two of the hottest teams in the conference are on deck this week.
This Week: Away @ Villanova, Home vs. West Virginia
8: Connecticut Huskies (10-9 ATS, 24-1 SU) (7-6 ATS, 13-1 SU in Big East) (LW: 7) Is there anyone that can stop the Huskies? The #1 team in the land raked in its fourth straight victory since gaining the top spot in the nation, and don’t appear ready to give it up any time in the near future. UConn is just 2-6 ATS at home this season, which could be good news for the Bulls and Panthers this week.
This Week: Home vs. Pittsburgh, Home vs. South Florida
9: Cincinnati Bearcats (10-10 ATS, 17-9 SU) (7-6 ATS, 7-6 SU in Big East) (LW: 9) Cincy basically held serve last week, beating St. John’s, but losing to Pittsburgh. Time is starting to run out to impress the Selection Committee, but with three home games coming in their next five, the Bearcats have some hope to crack the field. They’re 6-4 ATS at home this season, but more importantly, are 4-0 ATS their L/4 there.
This Week: Home vs. Louisville
10: Syracuse Orange (10-12 ATS, 19-7 SU) (6-7 ATS, 7-6 SU in Big East) (LW: 10) The Orange more than likely kept their spot in the NCAA Tournament for the time being by holding on to a 98-94 victory against G-Town in overtime. There won’t be much doubt left if the Cuse can take out red hot Villanova this weekend.
This Week: Home vs. Villanova
And the rest…
11: West Virginia Mountaineers (10-12 ATS, 17-8 SU) (6-6 ATS, 7-5 SU in Big East) (LW: 11)
12: Providence Friars (9-12 ATS, 16-9 SU) (7-6 ATS, 8-5 SU in Big East) (LW: 12)
13: St. John’s Red Storm (7-11-1 ATS, 12-13 SU) (5-8 ATS, 3-10 SU in Big East) (LW: 13)
14: Georgetown Hoyas (6-12-1 ATS, 13-10 SU) (2-10 ATS, 4-8 SU in Big East) (LW: 14)
15: Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-13 ATS, 14-10 SU) (3-10 ATS, 5-8 SU in Big East) (LW: 15)
16: DePaul Blue Demons (3-15 ATS, 8-18 SU) (2-11 ATS, 0-13 SU in Big East) (LW: 16)
