NCAA Basketball Week 4 Rankings – Big 10 Power Poll
by Mike Rose
Now that each of the teams in the Big Ten has had a few games to work with, BetUS Sportsbook takes a look at how each of the squads have done for college basketball betting fans against the basketball point spreads...
1: Ohio State Buckeyes (4-2 ATS, 5-1 SU) What the Buckeyes did to St. Francis should be considered illegal. Any time you can pick up a 110-47 victory, you've done something really impressive. Speaking of impressive, how about F Evan Turner? He leads the team in points per game (19.8), assists per game (6.3), and rebounds per game (12.5).
On Deck: Home vs. Florida State, Home vs. Eastern Michigan
2: Northwestern Wildcats (3-2 ATS, 5-1 SU) Northwestern won the Chicago Invitational Challenge with some convincing wins that may come in handy if it hopes to go dancing this year. Considering the Wildcats were dogs in both games, outright victories were very impressive. A win in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge would be huge against another team that should be hanging around the bubble this year.
On Deck: Away @ North Carolina State
3: Purdue Boilermakers (2-2-1 ATS, 5-0 SU) The Boilermakers played well in the Paradise Jam and picked up a big win against fellow Top-10 squad, Tennessee. A 64-38 'W' against Central Michigan isn't anything to complain about, but oddsmakers are just hanging impossible numbers up on this team early in the season.
On Deck: Home vs. Wake Forest, Home vs. Ball State
4: Wisconsin Badgers (2-2 ATS, 4-1 SU) All things considered, the Badgers had a pretty good Maui Invitational in spite of a 2-1 record. A loss to Gonzaga probably isn't going to hurt later in the season, but victories against both Maryland as a short dog and Arizona as a short favorite were both equally important.
On Deck: Home vs. Duke, Home vs. Grambling
5: Michigan State Spartans (2-3 ATS, 5-1 SU) You think that HC Tom Izzo isn't looking forward to this one? Sparty may have lost to the Gators earlier this week, but it stormed back with a huge victory against UMass; a great prep game for the team that knocked it off last year in the National Championship game on Tobacco Road.
On Deck: Away @ North Carolina, Home vs. Wofford
6: Michigan Wolverines (1-2 ATS, 3-2 SU) Even though tourney bids aren't punched in November, if the Wolverines don't make it this year, they're going to point at the Old Spice Classic and kick themselves. Losses to both Marquette and Alabama sting, and the cover against Creighton only came thanks to OT.
On Deck: Home vs. Boston College, Home vs. Arkansas Pine Bluff
7: Minnesota Golden Gophers (2-3 ATS, 4-2 SU) It was an ugly couple of days for the Gophers out in Anaheim as well. They were dropped 61-56 in a shocking upset by Portland, and then followed that up by laying an egg against Texas A&M. Things had better get back on track this week in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
On Deck: Away @ Miami, Home vs. Brown
8: Indiana Hoosiers (2-3-1 ATS, 3-3 SU) HC Tom Crean knew that his job at Indiana was going to be difficult, but the Hoosiers are already showing more of a pulse this year than they did for a good chunk of last season. No, wins against Northwestern State, Howard, and South Carolina Upstate aren't headliners in Bloomington, but close losses to both George Mason and Boston U are at least signs that things are heading in the right direction.
On Deck: Home vs. Maryland
And the rest...
9: Penn State Nittany Lions (1-3-1 ATS, 4-2 SU)
10: Illinois Fighting Illini (1-4 ATS, 4-2 SU)
11: Iowa Hawkeyes (1-5 ATS, 2-4 SU)
