NBA Trades - How the Moves will Affect Futures

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone. There were no real blockbuster trades before the deadline but some teams made a few moves that could seriously help them in their quest for the NBA betting Championships this season.

Let’s take a look at the odds on the teams making trades in the BetUS sportsbook and whether or not those trades will affect their chances to win the championship.

NBA Trades: Teams Making Moves

Boston Celtics +250 - - The Celtics dealt away Sam Cassell for a conditional second round pick in 2015. Cassel wasn’t going to do anything for them in the playoffs this season. So, Boston’s chances of winning the championship shouldn’t be affected at all.

Charlotte Bobcats +40000 - - The Bobcats traded for Vladimir Radmonovic from the Lakers by unloading Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown. This looks to have been strictly a salary cap move. Radmonovic could help the Bobcats next year but the Bobcats need a lot more than Vlado to contend.

Chicago Bulls +15000 - - The Bulls aren’t contenders either but in getting Brad Miller from Sacramento, they get a real nice inside presence. They also acquired Jon Salmons in the trade with Sacramento and Tim Thomas in a trade with the New York Knicks for Larry Hughes. They improved their chances to win but not enough to get close to the championship.

Houston Rockets +2000 - - The Rockets were a pre-season underdog favorite to win the NBA Championship. Not any more after trading Rafer Alston to the Magic for Brian Cook and Memphis guard Kyle Lowery. Alston was a very important part of Houston’s success. They become bigger long shots now.

Los Angeles Lakers +200 - - The Lakers unloaded Chris Mihm to Memphis for a second round pick in 2013. They also unloaded Vladimir Radmonivic for Adam Morrison, who can shoot the rock well on some nights. Those were good moves for a team that didn’t need a whole lot to get them over the hump. They are the clear cut favorite to win the title now.

Memphis Grizzlies +50000 - - The Grizzlies planned for the future by acquiring a first round pick from the Orlando Magic in a three way deal. That won’t help their chances this year…or for years to come probably, but it’s a step in the right direction. Acquiring Mihm makes absolutely no sense. I’m not sure why they did that.

Miami Heat +6500 - - The Heat improved tons by sending Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to Toronto for Jermaine O’Neal, Jamario Moon and a first round pick. O’Neal and Moon should work well with Dwayne Wade, something Marion never really did. I like this trade a lot. I’m not sure if it’s enough for the Heat to challenge the Magic, Celtics or Cavs, but it’s a great move.

Minnesota Timberwolves +50000 - - The Wolves gave up two underachievers, Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth, for a couple of other underachievers in Shelden Williams and rookie Bobby Brown. Maybe the Wolves think they can be successful with a different set of underachievers.

New Orleans Hornets +2000 - - The Hornets almost blew their chances by trading Tyson Chandler to Oklahoma City for Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith but the trade fell through after Chandler failed his physical. The Hornets still aren’t going to get close to winning the NBA Championship this season. The +2000 makes them an underlay.

New York Knicks +20000 - - The Knicks acquired two more cogs for their run and gun offense in Larry Hughes from Chicago for Tim Thomas and Chris Wilcox from Oklahoma City for Malik Rose. They won’t get close to winning the NBA Championship this season but they became even more fun to watch.

Oklahoma City +60000 - - If the trade for Tyson Chandler had gone through, and Chandler was healthy, they’d be well on their way to an NBA Championship…in five years. The trade for Chandler didn’t go through. So, they haven’t improved at all. Getting Malik Rose for Chris Wilcox doesn’t mean much.

Orlando Magic +800 - - The Magic made the most important trade before the deadline by acquiring point guard Rafer Alston for Brian Cook and a first-round pick. Alston is a huge addition to this team since Jameer Nelson, their starting point-guard, is out for the season. Alston brings point-guard experience, leadership, and the ability to hit the tough shot. The Magic should get a lot better. They are a legitimate threat to the Cavs and Celtics in the Eastern Conference.

Sacramento Kings +60000 - - The Kings were the worst team in the NBA before the trade deadline and will be the worst team in the NBA after the trade deadline. They got rid of Brad Miller’s huge contract, which is a plus, but what are they going to do now? Keep losing, that’s what, because they gave up two underachievers for two other underachievers in Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth.

Toronto Raptors +15000 - - Acquiring Marcus Banks and Shawn Marion might actually be a terrific move for the Raptors. Toronto wasn’t big enough for both Chris Bosh and Jermaine O’Neal. Now they get the slasher, perimeter type guy in Marion that they’ve always wanted to complement Bosh. Banks is a serviceable point-guard. This was a good trade for Toronto but their chances don’t get much better to win the NBA Championship than the 150 to 1 in the sportsbook.
