NBA Basketball Betting - Minnesota Timberwolves at Charlotte Bobcats
by Charles Jay

The Charlotte Bobcats (5-11 SU, 10-6 ATS) have thus far not responded too well to new coach Larry Brown. On Monday night they play what they figure is a highly winnable game as they play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves (4-11 SU, 6-9 ATS) in NBA pro basketball sports betting action that is scheduled to tip off at 7 PM ET at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC.

Charlotte isn't scoring well and isn't shooting well. The Bobcats, in term of raw numbers, are the worst scoring team in the NBA, averaging just 88.6 points a game, and they are hitting only 43.1% of their shots. This is somewhat surprising for a team that has a couple of bonafide scoring threats in Gerald Wallace and Jason Richardson. But Richardson has missed seven games and Wallace is averaging less than 17 points as Larry Brown seeks some balance. Another things Brown has been hoping for is a team that can defend, and the 'Cats may not have that kind of talent. Some wonder when tensions will start to boil over as the peripatetic Brown continues to try to find the answers in an organization that has to have one of the strangest structures in the NBA.
Minnesota is supposed to be the young, inexperienced team, yet Charlotte is the one with the horrible assist-turnover ratio (1.1-to-1). Both Ray Felton and rookie D.J, Augustin are hovering around 2-to-1, but it is clear that the undersized but developing Augustin is going to take over the job on a full-time basis sooner or later. Turnovers were this team's undoing last time out against the league-leading Celtics, as they coughed it up 21 times. Wallace and Richardson combined for 45 points, but Felton, who committed six turnovers, missed a couple of easy layups in the late going as Boston won an 89-84 decision. That was a credible showing, but what about the hangover from that?
The Wolves have given up 106.3 points a game over their last three. The shooting has not been so horrid lately, but the Wolves, who are getting 22 points and ten rebounds a contest out of Al Jefferson, would like to see someone step forward and be the second option on a more consistent basis. Randy Foye is shooting just over 40% from the field, and Mike Miller, acquired in the off-season to be an outside threat, has been solid in his overall game but is tallying just 11.5 ppg. Bad news came this past week as one of their better defensive players, Corey Brewer, was declared out indefinitely and probably for the season.
These are two teams who depend on something other than three-point shots, to be sure. Both average 4.9 field goals from beyond the arc. Charlotte is 30th in the league (that's last, folks) both in overall scoring and scoring at home. Obviously Brown feels that slowing the pace is the key to achieving the kind of game he wants out of his team.
But Richardson has scored 43 points in 71 minutes since coming back from his exploratory knee procedure and Brewer will not be around as a stopper. Charlotte won both meetings last year, and has been more competitive than usual, winning against Indiana and Philly before giving the Celtics a life-and-death struggle. And they have covered five of the last six. We'll cautiously lay the points with the Bobcats, the 3.5-point favorite in the BetUS NBA pro basketball sports betting odds.
