Sprint Cup All-Star Challenge To Win
Race-day: 5/16/2009
Race-time: 8:30 pm est.
NASCAR’s all-star weekend is here and two races are scheduled this Saturday. The first, the NASCAR Sprint Showdown at 7:00 pm will showcase what I like to refer to as the “B” drivers on the track.
No offense, but when the favorites in the BetUS online sportsbook are Brian Vickers and David Reutimann at +400, gamblers know that there is another race out there with Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart.
That would be the Sprint Cup All-Star Challenge
Let’s take a look at a few of the contenders.
NASCAR: Sprint Cup All-Star Challenge To Win
1. Jeff Burton +2000 - - Burton has 3 victories at Lowe’s Motor Speedway including a win last year. So, with a much shorter field than usual, why not take a driver that has been somewhat consistent this season and who has history on the track and is going off at fantastic NASCAR odds? Burton has history and history means something in this All-Star race.
2. Jeff Gordon +700 - - Gordon is having a fantastic season after a disappointing 2008 where he just didn’t drive up to Jeff Gordon standards. The guy is the best driver in NASCAR this year, maybe the best ever, and should be ready to show it in this All-Star race. Oh, yes, he does have 4 wins at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. That helps.
3. Tony Stewart +1000 - - Smoke only has one victory at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in his career, but this is an All-Star race and if any driver is dying to win an All-Star race it is Stewart who has changed crews and teams since 2008. He’ll want to prove to NASCAR fans that he’s just as good as ever. Drubbing his peers is a good way to do it.
4. Jimmie Johnson +600 - - He has 5 wins at Lowe’s Motor Speedway which is a good thing for him because Lowe’s does sponsor #48. So, what’s to stop Jimmie from getting a 6th victory? Not much. I prefer the other drivers above him because of their odds, but truth be told, Jimmie has as much of a chance of winning this race as anybody else.
5. Mark Martin +1000 - - The Southern 500 winner could easily put two back to back wins together especially since this is an All-Star race. Do you think that Martin likes driving for Rick Hendrick? He already has two victories on the year and is doing as well as Jimmie and Jeff. Martin also has two victories at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.
6. Kyle Busch +600 - - He’s been terrible at Lowe’s Motor Speedway historically with zero victories. But Kyle was awful last Saturday at Darlington. In the Southern 500, Busch did about as bad as he could have when finishing 34th. Busch will be looking to make a statement to his fellow drivers, and NASCAR fans, this Saturday.
