NASCAR Sprint Cup Betting - Taming ''The Monster Mile''
by Robby Maddux

Sunday's Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway a.k.a. ''The Monster Mile'', starting at 2:15pm EST on FOX, provides online NASCAR wagering fans a golden opportunity to find Victory Lane. Although its concrete surface plays hell on tires, if you know which driver’s style fits its unique demands, there's a clear edge for bettors with the need for speed. But if you're not a loyal NASCAR betting guru, instead a sports betting newbie to Sprint Cup action, here's a look at this weekend's contenders in efforts of helping you build your BetUS account balance by taming ''The Monster Mile''.
First, let's give you a feel and few facts about the track itself. Dover International Speedway is unique in many ways. It's the circuit's only venue that is exactly 1-mile long and the sole track on the 36-race schedule that's entire racing surface is concrete. So technically, it's not classified as a superspeedway, intermediate or a short track. Other tracks ran on in the Cup series are surfaced by asphalt, which is much more tire friendly. The concrete surface at Dover is notoriously hard on cars and rapidly devours Goodyear rubber, especially right-side tires, which dubbed the track ''The Monster Mile''.
Now, lurking is your winning selections! On race day, countless times you'll hear FOX commentators mention: Saving tires, car's set up and balance. These are all requirements that Jeff Gordon (+700) and the No. 24 team have. Saving tires and a car's set on the fast high-banked track is part of finding the right balance that is crucial at Dover, and in year's past Gordon seems to have found it. If the four-time Cup champion finds that balance again this Sunday, he'll break the tie for most Dover wins among active drivers with four shared with teammate Mark Martin, and become tied with the all-time record holder Bobby Allison who won five races at the facility.
Another driver that's savvy and knows all about Goodyear tires is Tony Stewart (+1100), who's made his feelings clear about the companies product. To put it mildly, Stewart would rather race on Hoosiers and his openness about it has drew much criticism and frowned on by NASCAR. But hey, that's Smoke and the freedom of speech's beauty, which he frequently takes advantage of. Though, Goodyear isn't going any where, love or hate it. Stewart is an aggressive driver but knows the track's grueling nature and its limits he can push.
In his first year as a car owner-driver for Hendrick affiliate Stewart-Haas racing, the team has displayed chemistry and communication between driver and crew chief, which is immeasurable to nailing a car's setup and balance. Stewart won the non-points NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race for the first time in eleven tries. He's yet to win a conventional race with his new team in 2009, but he has finished runner-up twice with three top-three runs. A win is just around the corner and it might come at Dover, a drivers' track fitting Stewart's racing style which he's proven with two victories there.
No matter what track, surface, location and-or size, put Kyle Busch in anything with four wheels and he'll find a way to adapt and win - love or hate him, the kid can drive. He owns a 2009 series-best three wins, which alone should immediately earn sports betting consideration. Busch is the defending champion of this race, proving he can tame ''The Monster Mile''. In addition to his Dover victory last year, he also has five top-five finishes in eight career starts. BetUS NASCAR odds solidify Busch's victory at Dover in this event last season was no fluke, pricing him the favorite to repeat at +450. The only concern with Rowdy is he sometimes drives overly aggressive. His crew chief will be reminding him throughout the race to save tires if he gains a comfortable lead, otherwise, Busch could literally drive the wheels off his car.
