Is Kasey Kahne back? That’s the question NASCAR betting fans had on their minds this week after Kahne claimed back-to-back checkered flags in the All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600.
The knock against Kahne is that both of those wins came at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Away from Lowe’s this season Kahne has recorded only one Top 5 finish, which doesn’t bode well for his chances in this weekend’s Best Buy 400 at Dover International Speedway. Taking that into consideration, it’s not a surprise that Kahne is a +1800 underdog for this weekend’s race.
Leading the NASCAR odds heading into Dover are Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards, who are listed as NASCAR betting co-favorites at +600. Busch recorded his eighth Top 5 finish of his season after finishing third at Lowe’s last week, which increased his lead in the driver standings to 94 points over Jeff Burton. Edwards is tied with Busch for the series lead in wins with three, and he won the last time NASCAR raced at Dover in last season’s Dodge Dealers 400.
The co-leaders in career wins at Dover in this weekend’s race field are Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon, with four victories each. Martin last won at Dover back in 2004, but without a win this season he is a big +2000 sports betting underdog to win at Dover again this weekend. Gordon, who last won at Dover back in 2001 is also still looking for his first win of the season, but he could finally be nearing a return to top form after a fourth-place finish last week at Lowe’s. Due to his struggles this season Gordon is a +1200 online betting underdog in the sportsbook this weekend.
Other drivers that have won multiple races at Dover that bettors may want to keep an eye on include Jimmie Johnson and Ryan Newman, with three wins apiece. Johnson, who is listed at +800 this weekend, last won at Dover in 2005 and swept both races during the 2002 season. Newman pulled off the sweep at Dover in 2003 and also won there in 2004. Newman is a huge +3000 underdog to add another win at Dover to his resume this weekend.
