Isn’t that funny? Online NASCAR racing fans, guess who won the two races run over this track in 2007? Yep! Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards.

Now, guess who are the two guys driving the best at this point in the NASCAR season? Yep again! Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards.

So in all of my wisdom am I choosing Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards as my top two online betting interests for this weekend’s Sharpie 500 at the Bristol Motor Speedway?

Uh, nope. Even though Carl just won a race last week and Kyle has been winning races with consistency, the NASCAR wagering odds are too low for me to put money on either guy. Oh, I’ll discuss them because they have a great chance of winning this weekend, but in making online NASCAR bets, I just can’t help but look for overlays.

Hopefully, I’ve found one in my top online betting interest in this weekend’s Sprint Cup race.

Sharpie 500 at the Bristol Motor Speedway

Race-day: 8/23/2008

1. Jimmie Johnson online odds + 1600 - - Sure, Jimmie hasn’t been that fantastic, but we’re getting closer and closer to the Chase. To me, it means that Jimmie will start driving like a mad man. At the online wagering odds of + 1600, he has to be my top pick in this.

2. Carl Edwards online odds + 550 - - Carl can definitely put together two back to back wins. His odds are very low for what figures to be a competitive race, but he could assert himself again this Sunday.

3. Kyle Busch online odds + 500 - - Kyle will drive well, okay? But can he pull off yet another win? Who am I kidding? Of course he can! I won’t be making any online bets on Kyle in this race because of the low online odds, but I have to admit that he’s got a shot.

4. Kasey Kahane online odds + 1000 - - I like Kahane in this spot this Sunday because he’s been quiet for a while now. Kahane has a very good crew and a decent car. He could do some serious damage at what figure to be very good online odds. Isn’t it time for Kasey to come up and bite the other drivers in their collective asses again?

5. Tony Stewart online odds + 800 - - Tony hasn’t won in a while. Doesn’t that mean he’s due? Doesn’t Tony always turn it on right before the Chase? He could win this at better online odds than both Carl and Kyle.

6. Juan Pablo Montoya online odds + 10000 - - Juan Pablo has had the most disappointing season of any NASCAR driver this year. He couldn’t even garner a victory over that road course a few weeks back. What’s going on? Drivers are supposed to improve year to year not get worse. Why will I have money on this guy? Because I just can’t believe that he’s this bad. This guy dominated Formula 1. There has to be something there.
