Jeff Gordon’s move towards the end of the race on Sunday at Talladega was nothing short of spectacular. It might be the most unbelievable thing I have ever seen in a race.
What was so special about it wasn’t necessarily the fact that Gordon ended up winning the race; it was how he did it. Gordon did virtually everything on his own. The decision on when to make the move was all Jeff. The decision on how to weave through traffic was all Jeff.
Recently, I saw a special on the top 25 drivers in NASCAR history. Gordon was the only driver in today’s races to make it into the top five. If he keeps making moves like the one he did on Sunday, he could easily leap-frog to the top spot. Spectacular.
Besides Gordon, here is a rundown of some of the drivers who might offer value this weekend in BetUS match-up betting:
Jimmie Johnson – Jimmie finished second to his teammate. In terms of winning the Nextel Cup, Jimmie did exactly what he was supposed to do. He’s going to have to win one of these if Gordon keeps firing bullets in order to get the main prize. That makes him a good bet in match-up betting. However, only bet on Jimmie against both Stewart and Gordon if you are getting odds. That’s still the way to go when it comes to the top three.
Tony Stewart – Stewart looked good throughout the entire race and still finished in the top ten. A good bet when getting odds, Johnson or Gordon, but a bad bet when giving up odds. Still, a great driver just because of his heart and his driving tenacity. You’re never out of it if you’re money’s on Stewart.
Denny Hamlin – Hamlin finally had a good race in the Cup chase. Good. The hope is that he can carry it into the next few weeks. Not buying it. I still don’t like him in match-up betting. Why? Just not sold on him yet. Call it gut feeling, too long of a memory, call it whatever you want to call it…
Dave Blaney – Uh…who is this guy again? Either he’s a diamond in the rough or…I’m at a loss for words…who is this guy again?
Casey Mears – Boy Casey is surprising me! I mean, I had no clue that he was going to get hot, hot, hot! Bet against this guy at your own risk! He’s been too hot to ignore, but you might not get the odds you want. That makes him either a good bet or a bad bet depending on the match-up.
Clint Bowyer – I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Bowyer actually gets into the top ten this weekend. He finished 11th at Talladega, and I did expect a let-down, but I expected a bigger let-down than that. This guy is proving to be difficult to wager against. So, take him, hope for odds, and watch that sinister Jack Daniel’s car to come roaring past some of the better known drivers towards the end of the race.
Kurt Busch/Kyle Busch – What to do with the Busch brothers? They’re up, they’re up, they’re down, etc. The bigger question is who will be up this weekend and who will be down this weekend? Let’s go with both. Let’s put a fork in both of them this weekend. It’s easier that way and there are others on this list that can make us some money.
Until next week, good luck!
