Despite the clear drop in power numbers across the entire landscape of Major League baseball last season, (likely due to the returned ‘normalcy’ a lack of steroid usage has brought) baseball fans all over the globe still dig the long ball.

With the Philadelphia Philliescountry strong first baseman Ryan Howard leading all major leaguers in home runs in two of the last three seasons, including 2008, the race to supplant Howard as baseball’s best home run hitter in 2009 is on.

In this season-long MLB Futures wager several MLB home run hitters have been given set Over/Under (O/U) totals that avid MLB betting enthusiasts can wager on as part of the thrilling multitude of season-long MLB Futures Props wagers in the BetUS Sportsbook.

Ryan Howard
Over 43½ HRs -115
Under 43½ HRs -115

Analysis: Going back the last three seasons, Ryan Howard has mashed 48, 47 and 58 dingers and is a ‘lock’ to go over 43½ home runs in 2009. As a matter of fact, I’m waiting for Howard to improve on lowering his seasonal strikeout totals while approaching 60 home runs at some point of his still-blossoming career.

MLB Free Pick: Over 43½ home runs

Prince Fielder
Over 35½ HRs -115
Under 35½ HRs -115

Analysis: Going back the last three seasons Fielder has bashed 34, 50 and 28 home runs but I’m not sure where his true numbers lie. Are they closer to the 50 homers he bashed inn 2007 or last season’s 34? Since he’s topped 35 home runs only once in his career, I say fielder narrowly falls Under his set O/U total for this season-long wager.

MLB Free Pick: Under 35½ home runs

Adam Dunn
Over 33½ HRs -115
Under 33½ HRs -115
Analysis: Going back the last five seasons, Adam Dunn has been scarily consistent, mashing 40 home runs in each of the last four seasons and 46 homers in 2004. Dunn easily tops 33½ home runs in 2009.

MLB Free Pick: Over 33½ home runs

Carlos Quentin
Over 28½ HRs -115
Under 28½ HRs -115
Analysis: Quentin hit 36 home runs last season but just five in 229 at-bats in 2007 and nine in 166 at-bats in 2006. While Quentin’s career numbers are that impressive as of yet, he does have 30-home run power and should reach that mark again in 2009 if he stays healthy. Take the Over here BetUS MLB sports betting enthusiasts.

MLB Free Pick: Over 28½ home runs

Jason Bay
Over 25½ HRs -115
Under 25½ HRs -115
Analysis: Bay had a solid season last year hitting 31 home runs, following four seasons in which he hit 21, 35, 32 and 26 respectively. Playing a full season with the Boston Red Sox and their big bats should help Bay see plenty of quality pitches while he again approaches or tops 30 home runs. Take the Over for Jason bay MLB sports betting backers.

MLB Free Pick: Over 25½ home runs

Albert Pujols
Over 34½ HRs -115
Under 34½ HRs -115
Analysis: Simply put, I believe Pujols is the finest all-around hitter in the game when it comes to hitting for average and power. Pujols has hit 37, 32, 49, 41 and 46 home runs over the last five seasons and is a lock to top 34½ home runs if he can avoid a lengthy injury. Even after missing a month last season, Pujols still managed to bang out 37 long balls.

MLB Free Pick: Over 34½ home run
