Back On The Block – Bailey, Rodriguez Look to Lead Clubs to Win and Cover

The Cincinnati Reds (41-41 SU, 45-37 RL, 35-45-2 O/U) and Philadelphia Phillies (43-38 SU, 42-39 RL, 36-39-6 O/U) will both be gunning for each other when they meet at Citizens Bank Park at 7 PM ET.

The Reds were lifted to a 4-3 win over the Phillies on Tuesday night on Ramon Hernandez's run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning.

Cincinnati cashed on for BetUS MLB sports betting members as +140 road underdogs while the final score played Under the 8.5-run Over/Under total.

Second baseman Brandon Phillips went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI for the Reds, while David Weathers picked up the win in relief of starter Aaron Harang for Cincinnati.

Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley went 3-for-5 with an RBI for Philadelphia, while closer Brad Lidge was charged with the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning.

Tonight, the Reds will give the ball to right-handed starter Homer Bailey (1-0, 5.94 ERA) while the Phillies counter with right-hander Rodrigo Lopez (1-0, 2.84 ERA).

Bailey, making just his third start of the season the last time out, allowed two earned runs on three hits in a career-high 7.1 innings of a 7-4 loss to St. Louis on Friday.

Lopez hadn't pitched in the majors in nearly two years before Friday, but looked like he didn’t miss a beat in limiting the Mets to two earned runs on six hits while striking out four in 6.1 innings.

Here is a look at tonight’s key trends, followed by my in-depth analysis and MLB Free Pick.

The Reds are 7-1 in their last 8 Wednesday games.
The Reds are 4-1 in their last 5 games as a road underdog.
The Reds are 2-5 in Bailey’s last 7 starts as an underdog of +110 to +150.

The Phillies are 4-1 in their last 5 games as a home favorite.
The Phillies are 4-1 in their last 5 home games.
The Phillies are 4-1 in their last 5 overall.
The Phillies are 15-5 in their last 20 vs. National League Central.

Analysis: The Philadelphia Phillies are ranked just 17th in hitting with a team batting average of .260 and are ranked 25th in pitching with a team earned run average of 4.66.

The Cincinnati Reds are ranked 26th in hitting with a batting average of .249 while ranking a stellar 10th in pitching with an earned run average of 4.20.

While the Philadelphia Phillies had their four-game winning streak snapped with Tuesday’s loss, I am coming back with the Phillies as my pick for this matchup tonight as they lay a smackdown on Reds starter Homer Bailey.

The Phillies have gone a solid 4-1 in their last five games as a home favorite and an identical 4-1 in their last five games overall.

While the Reds have gone an encouraging 4-1 in their last five games as a road underdog, Cincinnati has also gone a pitiful 1-10 in Bailey’s last 11 starts and 0-6 in the young right-hander’s last six starts against a team with a winning record.

Philadelphia has also posted a blistering 15-5 record in their last 20 games against National League Central opponents and I expect them to improve on that mark by handling Bailey tonight.

The Under also looks like the correct play for this ballgame BetUS MLB baseball betting enthusiasts as it has gone 5-1 in the last six meetings in Philadelphia and 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these teams overall.

After scoring a whopping 22 runs against the Reds on Monday, Ryan Howard and Jason Werth each went deep in Tuesday’s loss.

Take the Phillies to get back in the win column behind their heavy hitters while this contest plays Under the set O/U total.
