Christopher Young, scheduled to start for the San Diego Padres in this Sunday’s game, is a Princeton grad. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a pitcher who graduated from an Ivy League school take the mound. Maybe I didn’t watch enough baseball as a child.

I’m not sure if Young’s diploma will necessarily intimidate Derek Lowe, the scheduled starter for theLos Angeles Dodgers. If it doesn’t, then maybe that ERA of 1.59 will. That’s what Young gave up in his first start of the season, a win against the Houston Astros. For his career Christopher Young has a lifetime ERA of 3.65. Not too shabby smart-boy!

Derek Lowe, the number two starter in Joe Torre’s rotation, has a lifetime ERA of 3.81. He’s been in the league a while, 11 years to be exact, so there isn’t much that Lowe hasn’t seen. Still, he will have to bring his “A” game to take down Young. Here’s my personal wagering lines.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Derek Lowe + 1 ½ - 145 + 130 O 6

San Diego Padres

Christopher Young - 1 ½ + 115 - 165 U 6

I clearly believe that Young has a huge advantage in this game. I’ll give up the 1 ½ runs on Young if I can get at least 15 dollars over the hun. I also like Young to win straight-up at – 165. The Dodgers haven’t shown that they’ve got the bats yet. They did score five runs against the San Francisco Giants in the first game of the season but since then they haven’t gone over three runs.

They’ll need at least that in order to beat the Padres. The Padres don’t have a lot of bats either but, man, they sure do have the pitching. I think Young will get enough support in this game to do very, very well.

Don’t be shy about the BetUS over/under either. If it falls around 6, which I think it will, then definitely consider taking the under.

Nobody really scores a lot in PetCo Park. That means under and that means Christopher Young.
