Somebody will break out over the .500 mark on Wednesday night at Safeco Field in Seattle when the hometown Mariners (1-1) tackle the Texas Rangers (1-1) in a matchup of American League West clubs that will get underway at 10:10 PM ET.

Right-handers square off in this one, as Jason Jennings of the Rangers goes against Carlos Silva of the Mariners.

Carlos Silva could become a key acquisition as Seattle makes its bid (in the opinion of some, a very strong one) for the American League West title. Silva came over from the Minnesota Twins with a four-year, $48 million free agent deal. He's not a flame thrower, but Silva, a deft sinker ball specialist, knows how to keep the ball in the strike zone, walking just 77 hitters in 570 innings over the last three seasons.

Jason Jennings, a former stalwart with the Colorado Rockies who washed out with Houston last year (2-9, 6.46 ERA), is a big question mark, having undergone elbow surgery in the off-season to repair a torn flexor tendon. He was brought on by Texas only because the Rangers are truly desperate for help with their starting rotation. Jennings will have to prove he's going to provide some answers, and we are not willing to move on him just yet.

Silva is far more consistent, and he is less likely to allow the big inning because of his control. this series has skewed toward the home team, which has won six of the last seven meetings. Thus, there is some value here with the Mariners and their new free agent find.
