Despite selecting the Los Angeles Dodgers, (26-25, 21-30 RL) to win Tuesday’s matchup against the Chicago Cubs, (31-21, 28-24 RL) in the BetUS Locker Room – and promptly getting burned for it - I am back to my good senses and have a winning wager for tonight’s sports betting matchup between the two ball clubs.
While both ball clubs have each won five of their last ten games in the BetUS Sportsbook, it is the Dodgers who are struggling more, having lost four of their last five games overall.
Tonight, the Dodgers will face Cubs spectacular lefty, Carlos Zambrano, (7-1, 2.47 ERA) who is coming off another fine outing in his last start as he limited the Pittsburgh Pirates to two runs in seven innings of Chicago’s 12-3 win on Friday.
Zambrano has also gotten the job done at the plate, leading all pitchers with 11 hits, picking up a whopping four, against the Pirates.
"He has good stuff - utilize it, maximize your pitch count so you can go eight innings in a game," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "When it's all said and done, he's 7-1 for us, and that's a pretty darn good start."
With Chicago’s impressive 21-8 home record at Wrigley Field, the Dodgers will be hard-pressed to beat the Cubs when they send veteran right-handed starter Derek Lowe, (2-5, 5.03), who is looking for his first win in over a month.
Lowe was solid in his last start, limiting the St. Louis Cardinals to two runs on five hits in seven innings, though he got almost no run support in the Dodgers’ 2-1 loss on Friday.
Lowe has been repeatedly victimized by a lack of run support, getting two runs of support or fewer for the seventh time this season.
"I still got a loss," Lowe said. "I'm not here for moral victories. I still lost and I'm not leaving the park with a good feeling."
Here is a look at tonight’s key baseball betting trends followed by my MLB Betting Picks.
The Dodgers are 4-1 in Lowe’s last five starts during game two of a series.
The Dodgers are 4-1 in Lowe’s last five starts following a team loss in their previous game.
The Cubs are 7-0 in Zambrano’s last seven starts as a home favorite of -151 to -200.
The Cubs are 10-1 in Zambrano’s last eleven starts as a favorite of -151 to -200.
The Under is 5-1-1 in Lowe’s last seven starts vs. National League Central.
The Under is 8-2 in Zambrano’s last ten starts during game two of a series.
The Dodgers are 4-1 in Lowe’s last five starts vs. Cubs.
The Under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings.
Analysis: I feel bad for Dodgers starter Derek Lowe not being able to win because of a serious lack of run support from his L.A. teammates but not bad enough to pick him and the Dodgers to win this game. Take the Cubs behind Carlos Zambrano to win this game handily.
