MLB Betting - Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox

MLB betting faithful get to wrap their hands around the second installment of the “El Series” this afternoon when the NL Central Division leading Chicago Cubs head south to US Cellular Field to lock horns with the AL Central Division leading Chicago White Sox. Sox fans have been clamoring for this series in this venue ever since the Cubs throttled their club in last year’s six game series, and to make matters worse, broke out the brooms again in their three game set at Wrigley last weekend.

Looking to pick up his first road victory of the season will be the Cubs Sean Gallagher who comes into his ninth start of the season with a 3-3 record. He sports an overall ERA of 3.97 and 1.32 WHIP allowing 46 hits and 22 runs (21 earned) with a K/BB ratio of 39/17 in just less than 48 total innings of work. He needs to become more confident in his second and third pitches, and that’s why pitching coach Larry Rothschild has made it a point to instill confidence in him throughout his off-day throwing sessions. In four overall starts as a visitor, Gallagher is 0-3 with a 4.38 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. This will be his first ever start against the White Sox franchise.

Opposing the righty will be Palehose right-hander Javier Vazquez who will be making his 16th start of his ’08 campaign in this online gambling affair. He enters his turn in the rotation 7-6 overall with a 4.24 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. He’s allowed 107 hits and 50 runs (48 earned) while striking out 97 and issuing 29 free passes in 102 innings of total work. Javier has really had a bad go of it of late. In his last four outings, he’s allowed at least four earned runs in each start. He walked five more in Sunday’s series finale against the Cubs and gave up five runs on five hits through just six innings of work in the White Sox 7-1 defeat. His 3.43 ERA back in late May has gone up nearly a point in the last month. He's walked 16 batters in the six starts since then and struck out just 29 -- an unusual ratio for the strikeout pitcher. Vazquez is 3-4 against the Cubs with an ERA just under 5.00 in 10 career starts.

As good as the Cubs have been at home this season, they’ve only been average as a visitor and they’ll certainly have their hands full in this venue after demoralizing “White Sox Nation” last week. The Northsiders have only managed victories in one of their last seven Interleague games on the road against a +.500 team, and they’re yet to earn a victory in any of Gallagher’s four road starts this year. The Palehose have treated the online betting public very nicely with Javier Vazquez toeing “The Cell’s” bump winning 13 out of the L/16 times. The White Sox have also shown no mercy against losing road teams in this venue securing victories 20 of the L/27 times. No better place for “J Vaz” to turn his fortunes around than at home where he’s been masterful as a member of the White Sox franchise. Look for the Southsiders to cash as moderate sized favorites this afternoon, and snag an even bigger return on the run-line where the White Sox have thrived all season long (48-30 +1943.00).
