This is the MLB BetUS bettors’ division, friends! Without a doubt this is absolutely the best division for MLB BetUS bettors to get some money on. Why? Because there are no less then four teams in this division who are at + 250. You can probably guess which four teams those are.
Now, I’m not going to sit here and confuse parity with quality. Out of the four teams - - I highlight them below - - not a single one has a chance versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Boston Red Sox, or Detroit Tigers in the World Series. Heck, I don’t even know if any team in the N.L. West has a chance against the St. Louis Cardinals or Chicago Cubs.
But for MLB BetUS bettors there may be no more interesting division this season.
Here’s a look at each team with their BetUS divisional winning odds:
Los Angeles Dodgers - - BetUS odds + 250 - - The Dodgers made the biggest move in free agency over the off-season but it wasn’t by signing a player. They replaced manager Grady Little with Joe Torre. Torre is a terrific manager. Before his run with the Yankees, he actually did some terrific things with the Atlanta Braves. So it’s not like Joe was just good in the right situation. He knows what he’s doing. Now whether or not that translates to victories and a divisional title is another story. First, the Dodgers have an ace in Brad Penny. When he’s good, he’s very good. More often then not, he was awfully good last year. But after Penny, the Dodgers need someone else to step-up and deliver from the mound. Derek Lowe finished last season with a record of 12-14 and an ERA of 3.88. Not good enough in the N.L. Adding Andruw Jones can only help them produce runs. Still, these are the Dodgers who look good every year on paper. Beware of putting too much money on these guys to win this division.
Arizona Diamondbacks - - BetUS odds + 250 - - The BetUS odds on this team are absolutely fantastic! I’ll tell you why - - there isn’t another team in the N.L. West Division with two potential shut-down pitchers like Brandon Webb and Dan Haren. Then, if you don’t have to face either one of those guys, you still have to deal with Randy Johnson who, though not nearly as dominant as he used to be, can put in a good outing once in a while. That makes the Diamondbacks the team to beat in the N.L. West Division. Last year Haren had an ERA of 3.07 against teams in the A.L. What should he do in the N.L.? You can never tell with pitchers, but a Cy Young type season isn’t out of the question. This is the bet - - for now.
Colorado Rockies - - BetUS odds + 250 - - The Rockies were on fire last year and made it all the way to the World Series. Some folks thought they might be a team of destiny. I didn’t. I thought the Sox would destroy them and the Sox did. So what’s going to happen this year? We know the Rockies can produce run but can they shut-down opposing offenses? Jeff Francis’s ERA last year was 4.22. Aaron Cook’s was 4.12. The Rockies were a good story last year, but I don’t see where they’ve improved all that much while the Dodgers added the best manager in baseball and Andruw Jones and the Diamondbacks added a shut-down pitcher. I’m not liking the Rockies at those BetUS odds.
San Diego Padres - - BetUS odds + 250 - - San Diego boasts the best pitcher in the N.L. on their team, Jake Peavy. With Peavy the Padres will always have a shot to win the N.L. West. That makes them almost as enticing as the Arizona Diamondbacks. The difference, I think, is with the second starter in each teams’ rotation. While the Diamondbacks have Dan Haren, the Padres have Chris Young who, although not bad, will need to pick things up in order for the Padres to win the N.L. West. He finished with a terrific ERA, 3.12, but a not so great record of 9 and 8. The Padres have the bats, but there’s something about these guys that tells me to lay-off. I’m cold on them - - for now.
San Francisco Giants - - BetUS odds + 3000 - - Even in the tough N.L. West, there is a doormat. Those doormats are the San Francisco Giants. By doormat, I mean that the only reason that any of us watched this team last year, Barry Bonds, won’t play for them this year. After perusing the Giants’ line-up and trying to figure out the real chances they have of winning the N.L. West, I decided that the BetUS odds makers have it right. Don’t even think about wagering on this team to win the N.L. West Division.
