The Seattle Mariners, (28-49, 31-45 RL) may be the worst team in all of baseball at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped the M’s from taking two straight games from the dysfunctional New York Mets, (37-39, 35-41 RL) the last two days, including Tuesday night’s 11-0 rout.
Now with two new managers replacing their successors in Seattle and New York, the Mariners and Mets are each seeking to get a grip on their respective 2008 regular seasons.
Seattle has won two straight games for interim manager Jim Riggleman in the BetUS Sportsbook and for the BetUS MLB online sports wagering community and will send right-hander Miguel Batista, (3-9, 6.26 ERA) to the mound tonight as he makes his first start since being demoted to the bullpen on June 8 in a contest that could help Seattle to nab its first three-game sweep of the season.
Batista hit one batter, walked two and allowed two runs on two hits without recording an out in the Mariners’ 5-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.
"I didn't do the job in the ninth," said Batista, who needed just 19 pitches to complete his meltdown. "That's about it."
New York Mets interim manager Jerry Manuel will counter by handing the ball to right-hander John Maine (7-5, 3.78) who limited the Colorado Rockies to two runs on six hits in 6.2 innings on Friday.
Here is a look at tonight’s key online sports wagering trends followed by my analysis and MLB online betting Free Picks:
The Mariners are 1-4 in Batista’s last five starts on grass.
The Mariners are 1-4 in Batista’s last five road starts vs. a team with a losing record.
The Mets are 4-0 in Maine’s last four Wednesday starts.
The Mets are 6-1 in Maine’s last seven starts as a home favorite of -151 to -200.
The Over is 4-1 in Batista’s last five starts with the total set at 9.0-10.5.
The Over is 4-0 in Maine’s last four starts as a home favorite.
The Mariners are 6-0 in the last six meetings.
Analysis: While the Mariners are close to getting their first three-game sweep of the 2008 regular season, I like the Mets and John Maine to deny the Mariners as they pound mediocre Mariners’ starter, Miguel Batista, absolutely senseless.
