Not Hot - MLB's Coldest Teams SU

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

Whereas the picture is getting rosier for the hot squads in the bigs, there are plenty of teams in baseball that are singing the blues. Check out BetUS Sportsbook’s list of teams down in the dumps that you should stay away from at all costs if recent form is any indicator…

(Rank) (Team) (SU Record, $$$) (SU Record in L/5, $$$)

1: Cleveland Indians (31-49, -$2,163) (0-5, -$700 in L/5) The Indians are starting to threaten the Nationals for the worst money mark in baseball this season. The most recent five games in the middle of this nine-game home stand have been an absolute disaster for the Tribe, as not only have they lost each of these games by at least three runs, but they did so in each game as a favorite. Look no further than the pitching staff when you’re ready to place blame. The staff has a 5.36 ERA this season, easily the worst mark in baseball, and those matters have been made worse by the 38 runs it has allowed over the L/5 games. There’s no starting pitcher for Cleveland that has a winning record, and it’s usually never good news when Carl Pavano leads your team in wins. For pitchers that have thrown at least 30 innings this season, only two on the entire staff have sub-4.00 ERAs. Five of them have 5.00+ ERAs, three have 6.00+ ERAs.

2: Toronto Blue Jays (42-38, +$95) (1-4, -$377 in L/5) At the same time yesterday, the Jays erased a four-game losing streak and stopped the Rays’ seven-game winning streak. The win was arguably a must-have for Toronto, as a loss would’ve dropped it four games behind the Rays for third place in a hotly contested AL East. It’s starting to become very hard to picture how the Blue Jays are going to stick around with the top teams in this division this season, as a pitching staff which features Roy Halladay and a bunch of boards with angry faces is starting to show signs of wearing down. Halladay is still on pace to throw almost 250 innings again this season, and he looked very, very shaky in his first start back from suffering a groin injury this week.

3: Arizona Diamondbacks (31-47, -$1,921) (1-4, -$342 in L/5) The Diamondbacks went on their run just after they fired manager Bob Melvin, but over the last month or so, the reality has sort of set in. This team is absolutely awful. Poor SP Dan Haren has to want to shoot himself. He leads the team in wins with seven, but thanks to the fact that he’s on a miserable team, his 2.19 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and 7.53 K/9 are going to total waste. Not only are his pitching numbers fantastic, but he’s also batting .286 for the season. There are only two D-Backs with better batting averages! If Arizona had any soul, it would do the right thing for Haren and try to send him to a contending team before the deadline, but considering how badly it is playing, at least the righty gives the fans in the desert a reason to go see them one out of every five games.

And the rest…

4: Washington Nationals (22-54, -$2,744) (1-4, -$283 in L/5)

5: St. Louis Cardinals (42-38, -$270) (2-3, -$200 in L/5)
