The Chicago White Sox took the field in last night’s MLB online betting affair against the Kansas City Royals in search of its third road sweep of the season, but the Royals proved to be too much this time around and held on by a 4-1 final count to avoid the embarrassment. Both Zach Greinke and Mark Buehrle were dynamite. Buehrle threw seven plus innings of six-hit ball, but his defense let him down allowing a pair of unearned runs to cross the plate to hand him his eighth defeat of the season. Greinke allowed one-run across the plate off the bat of OF Jermaine Dye (HR 20) in the fourth inning, but other than that was solid and would have earned the win if his clubs offensive outburst in the eighth came an inning earlier. The defeat was Chicago’s 25th in 46 road games this season (.456) costing MLB bettors $157 on the season as visitors. At 53-38 overall, the White Sox hold a 2.5-game lead over the Minnesota Twins for the top spot in the AL Central. Rangers Ballpark in Arlington was a launching pad last night as the Angels and Rangers combined to score 21 runs, but Texas found itself on the wrong side of the 11-10 extra-inning final. The loss was just the clubs fourth in its L/10 games overall, and Texas comes into tonight’s opening game of the series 48-45 on the year making the MLB wagering public a healthy $1305 on the season. The Rangers took four of the six games against the White Sox a year ago, which included a three-game sweep at home back in late August.
Taking the bump for the Palehose for the 18th time this season will be Chicago’s Gavin Floyd who notched his 10th win of the season in a dominating effort against Oakland his last time out. He threw 7 1/3rd innings of top-notch ball allowing no runs and three hits. He’s been one of the many great stories in the White Sox starting rotation this season. He currently stands 10-4 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.12 WHIP allowing 82 hits and 53 runs (39 earned) with a K/BB ratio of 73/40 in 109 total innings of work. On the road, he’s 3-3 with a 4.38 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. He made two career starts against the Dodgers when he was a member of the Philadelphia Phillies back in 2006 (0-2 13.49 ERA), but is yet to face them as a member of the White Sox. He has one lone start against the Rangers in his brief career, and it just so happened to take place in this venue. He threw six innings of three-run ball in the White Sox 4-3 road defeat on August 28th of last season.
Rookie right-hander Luis Mendoza got torched by the Los Angeles Angels his last time out lasting less than two innings and allowing eight runs on nine hits. It was the second time in his five big league starts this season that he failed to make it past the second inning forcing Manager Ron Washington to go to his already taxed bullpen earlier than he would have liked. The Rangers are yet to win in any of the kids’ five starts this season, and this could be his final go if he isn’t able to churn out his first quality start of the season.
