Bet On Baseball - Streaking To the MLB Bank

Pitching is key to MLB betting success, and many baseball handicappers focus solely on a matchup's hurlers, but streaks should also be taken into account before getting down on action around the diamond.

MLB features more streaks with longevity, win and loss, than any other professional sport. That claim held true particularly in 1988 when the Baltimore Orioles won 21 straight games, which is tops in the history of professional baseball. The team with the dubious honors of owning the longest losing streak is the Philadelphia Phillies, who lost 23 consecutive in 1961.

Winning and losing streaks are clearly direct trends that impact bankrolls, but individual streaks can also play roles in a games outcome. The game itself is made up of many varieties of individual streaks that can directly have an impact on your bankroll.

MLB wagering fans in Los Angeles can attest to that fact, when then dodgers closer Eric Gagne converted 83 consecutive save opportunities.

Joe DiMaggio hit safely in 56 consecutive games in 1941 and Cal Ripken's 2,632 consecutive games played are just a few history making events in a game that's foundation is built on streaks.

If you bet on MLB, winning and losing streaks can be sexy and profitable.

Knowing whose riding the money-making train is equally important as to when you should jump aboard.

The Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves currently lead the majors with a modest five-game win streak, and hopping on board this evening makes perfect sense, as BetUS MLB odds indicate by tagging both favorites for tonight's games.

The Red Sox haven’t won six in a row since a 12-game run from June 16-29, 2006. But starting at 7:05pm EST, Boston will collect their sixth straight victory, bettering its longest win streak from all of last season even with the late pitching change.

Josh Beckett was scheduled to get the start but he's a late scratch because of a stiff neck. David Pauley was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to replace Beckett. This will be Pauley's four career MLB start. He's 0-2 with a 7.88 ERA, but the right-hander will be backed by a hot offense. The Red Sox have won nine of 10, hitting .338 and scoring 69 runs during the span.

The Braves face the Washington Nationals at 7:10pm EST at Turner Field. The Nats have dropped three straight and 15-of-17 since starting the season with three straight wins, which brings streaking into the equation before John Smoltz (3-0, 0.56 ERA) even takes the mound for Atlanta.

In 67 appearances (40 starts) versus the Nationals’ franchise, Smoltz has recorded 260 strikeouts - his most against any team. He gave up one run and fanned five in a 10-2 win in Washington on April 12, improving to 21-11 with a 2.58 ERA all-time against the Nats.

The 40 year old right-hander will be trying to become the 16th pitcher in history to reach 3,000 strikeouts. Smoltz will have no problem pushing his win streak to four and earning the Braves their sixth consecutive victory as the winning-streak train stays on track.
