Let’s get to the recap.

NCAAB:  1st and 2nd Round Re-cap

Top Seeds Rule:  Louisville, Pittsburgh Connecticut and North Carolina all made it into the Sweet 16.  Connecticut had the easiest time by beating Texas A&M 92 to 66.  For Pittsburgh and Louisville it was much tougher.  Pitt ended up beating Oklahoma State by 8.  Louisville ended up beating Sienna by 7.  NC looked good by winning their second round game by 14 points.  Check out the odds on the top seeds to win the NCAA Tournament.

Only One Cinderella at the Ball:  Only one seed over a 5 made it to the Sweet 16.  That would be the #12 seed Arizona Wildcats out of the Midwest.  The odds on Arizona to win the Big Dance are +3500.

It’s all about the Big East:  The Big East continues to dominate the 2009 NCAA Tournament by sending 5 teams into the Sweet 16.  Besides Connecticut, Pittsburgh and Louisville, Villanova made it, they’re at +1800 to win the tourney, and Syracuse made it, they’re at +2000 to win the tourney.

The Big 12 sends Three and Big Ten Sends Two Teams:  The Big 12 got three spots in the Sweet 16, Oklahoma at +1500 to win the tournament, Missouri at +2700 to win and Kansas at +2000 to win the tournament.  The Big Ten also sends two teams to the Sweet 16 when Michigan State pulled away from USC on Sunday and Purdue beat Washington by 2 points on Saturday.  The odds on Michigan State to win the tournament are +1800.  The odds on Purdue are +3500.

Duke, Xavier, Memphis and Gonzaga Make up the Rest:  Duke played their eyeballs out, and got lucky, to beat Texas on Saturday.  Gonzaga and Xavier have actually been playing very well but its Memphis that looks ultra tough going into the Sweet 16.  Here are the odds in the sportsbook on those four teams.

  • Duke                           +1000
  • Xavier                         +5000
  • Gonzaga                     +2000
  • Memphis                    +700
