The Dubai World Cup will be run on March 28th. It feels like a long time away, but BetUS has released odds on the top ten contenders.

Usually, it’s anathema to making profits to put money onto a horse so early before a race. The reason is that most horses are fickle animals both physically and mentally. Some horses can’t take the strain of training, much less traveling, and end up injuring themselves or developing strange illnesses before races.

That probably won’t happen to these old pros that have been to racetracks all over the world. The Dubai World Cup is the most prestigious race in the world. With a purse of over 6 million dollars it’s easily one of the richest.

Let’s take a look at the top contenders based on odds to win the Dubai World Cup.

Dubai World Cup Futures

1. Albertus Maximus +225 - - Albertus Maximus just romped against a solid field in the Grade I Donn Handicap. He should have no problem running over the dirt at Dubai and because the track favors American speed, which is what Albertus brings to the table, he’ll be a huge, make that incredibly huge, short-priced favorite on race day. Not only is Albertus Maximus the best bet at +225 to win the Dubai World Cup, he’s the best futures bet in the sportsbook at the moment. Take this guy and pray he doesn’t get hurt or his connections don’t change their mind.

2. Well Armed +1200 - - Well Armed just finished second in the Grade II San Antonio over the Pro-Ride surface in his last race at Santa Anita. Okay, so he didn’t win. Big whoop. This guy is much better on dirt anyhow. He has Dubai experience and could easily win because he might be good enough to steal it. The fact that he finished second in a Grade II over a surface that he hates means that he has a huge shot in this. I love the odds.

3. Asiatic Boy +600 - - He should be closer to the pace than Colonel John and his ability to finish might help him in this but he’ll have to hustle to keep up with the top two. Still, he’s an old pro with lots and lots and lots of class. He’s the best bet outside of Well Armed and Albertus Maximus.

4. Daiwa Scarlet +500 - - If the connections make the trip, then this horse has the ability to beat both Albertus Maximus and Well Armed. I question whether or not they will make the trip with this suddenly hot prospect from Japan. Scarlet can do some serious damage but the Dubai World Cup is a whole different animal than trying to win races on the turf.

5. My Indy +800 - - My Indy has the style to keep it close, but class is an issue for this son of A.P. Indy. Well Armed and Albertus Maximus might be too tough for this guy but if he’s on the upswing, then he can do it. He should be getting a prep in the next few weeks.

6. Colonel John +450 - - Everybody keeps giving this son of Tiznow props even though he hasn’t proven to be one of the top horses in the United States let alone the world. He’s a four year old that could improve enough to turn into something special, but I don’t think so because his style is to lay far off the pace and then make a big run around the turn. He won’t catch either Well Armed or Albertus Maximus in this.
