Breeders’ Cup Turf Power Rankings

The Breeders’ Cup is about five weeks away. That’s not a long time in horse racing. In fact, a lot of Breeders’ Cup horses should get their preps in about a week from now.

For online racebook fans, there is no better time of the year than the Breeders’ Cup. The online betting pools are going to be magnificent. The overlay online wagering odds will be fantastic. The horse bets that the BetUS online racebook will offer will be lovely!

But that doesn’t mean that online racebook fans shouldn’t look to place an online future wager on a horse to win one of the Breeders’ Cup races. Getting on a horse early has its drawbacks, namely the chance that the horse betting you like doesn’t make it to the starting gate, but taking the higher online odds usually is a good idea.

Let’s get to it!

Breeders’ Cup Turf Power Rankings

1. Duke of Marmalade - - online betting odds + 300 - - Run to the BetUS online betting windows the moment that the Duke’s connections say he’s coming over stateside to run in this. I mean, run. This fella has won five Group 1 races this year. Five. Count them. Five. There is nobody else on the planet that could contend with this fella on the turf. Forget it. He’s the best.

2. New Approach - - online betting odds + 1000 - - This fella was perfect in the Epsom Derby but he showed up rank in his last race. The Duke squashed him. I don’t feel he’s go the mentality to handle a trip all the way to Arcadia, CA, but the online betting odds are just too good to ignore. He’s a Group 1 winner who could upset the Duke - - if everything goes perfectly for him.

3. Red Rocks - - online betting odds + 1200 - - He won this race two years ago and ran well in it last year. The thing to like about Red Rocks is that he’s acclimated himself well to the United States. He actually likes running here. He also doesn’t have to come from the clouds. Santa Anita’s turf course can play fast some times. Red Rocks could spring another upset at nice online wagering odds.

4. Better Talk Now - - online betting odds + 2000 - - Another former winner but unlike Red Rocks, Better Talk Now hasn’t been the same since winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf in what seems like ages ago. The reason I like him is simple - - nobody closes better than Better Talk Now and there might be enough speed in this race to set things up for him.

5. Montmartre - - online betting odds + 700 - - If he decides to go for this race instead of showing up in the Prix D’Le Arc Triomphe, then the 7 to 1 online odds will look like a gift. This guy is a monster. He crushed a field in his last and no doubt could do the same in this race. But the Prix is his first choice.

6. Winchester - - online betting odds + 1400 - - There’s not a whole lot not to like about this guy. Sometimes a horse arrives from overseas with little fanfare and suddenly explodes into a monster. Such is the case with Winchester who came over for Dermot Weld, won the Grade I Secretariat, and now could take down the Breeders’ Cup Turf. His turn of foot in the Grade I Secretariat was unbelievable. But beware the second in the States bounce.
