Horse Pick of the Day - Turfway Park

Bookmark and Share by D.S. Williamson

Race-day: 1/8/2009

Race-time: 8:38 pm est.

Turfway Park will often times run races at night. It’s actually a very good deal for sports betting fans that can make online horse bets on Aqueduct and Santa Anita races during the day and then switch to Turfway Park at night.

The goal, of course, is to find the best online horse bet for the best price. Yes, even during the night at Turfway Park.

Let’s get to it!

Turfway Park – Race 8

Claiming $12,500

For Four Year Olds and Up

1 1/16th miles on Polytrack

Papal - - 6/1 online betting odds

This will be Papal’s third race off of the bench. The slightest improvement could put this 6 year old $100,000 dollar yearling purchase, now a gelding, into the winner’s circle. Papal comes out of Pulpit and even though he’s never lived up to his daddy’s brilliant career, he’s done okay for himself at times. Papal has two wins out of eight starts on Turfway Park’s Polytrack surface and the fact that he provided a twenty point jump in speed rating from his first off the bench to his second start says that he’s ready to win. He could be a nice online betting surprise in this.

Da Da Da Dum - - 4/1 online betting odds

There are some other better known horses in this race and Da Da Da Dum is moving up in class but the fact that he can stay close enough to pounce onto the two front-runners, Longley and Rock House Rocket, means that he has a shot in this. Like Papal, he won’t have to come from the clouds and his trainer, Joanie Cook, is hitting at 33% for the meet. He’s got a chance even though he might be cheaper than some of the others in here.

Longley - - 9/2 online betting odds

In early September this 5 year old son of Seeking the Gold was running against Jonesboro in minor stakes races at Churchill Downs. Now, he’s quickly becoming a low level claimer. Longley ran for $80,000 in early November. Then later that month he ran for $40,000. Now, he’s running in a $16,000 claimer for the second time in a row. There could definitely be something wrong with this guy, but the talents there. He’ll be part of the pace. The question is how long will he last?

Wagering Strategy

I believe Papal deserves an online bet to win and place. Instead of betting the exacta and trifecta box, I will use both Papal and Da Da Da Dum over Longley for second and third in the trifecta and second in the exacta. I will then box Da Da Da Dum and Papal in an exacta box.

Good Luck!
