August 14th Horse Pick of the Day - Del Mar Race 7

Bookmark and Share by BetUS Staff

Turf sprints have become all the rage for tracks across the United States now that the Breeders’ Cup has decided to add turf sprinting to their line-up. There’s no doubt that for online racebook fans the best turf sprinting occurs on both coasts as Del Mar and Saratoga have been instrumental this summer in promoting sprint races on the turf.

Successful horse bets on sprint turf races requires knowledge of not only how the turf plays at each particular track but the speed of those various horses in the races. Such is the case with our pick of the day that’s in a race where some well known West Coast horses have shown up to try their hand at turf sprinting.

Let’s get to it!

Del Mar Racecourse – Race 7

$62,500 Optional Claimer n2x

For Fillies and Mares 3-Years Old and Up

5 furlongs on turf

Queen of the Catsle - - 7/2 morning line odds

This daughter out of Tale of the Cat ran to good to lose in her last dropping a decision to Whatsitgonnatake by only a neck. She gets a good draw here and her trainer, Howard Zucker, has been excellent with limited starters at this meet. You have to love her name, Catsle instead of Castle, and all she has to do is improve by just a smidgen to win this. She’s a nice key horse in all of your online horse bets.

Whatsitgonnatake - - 3/1 morning line

The likely chalk will be close to the pace and has won three races in a row since May. She’s a terrific five-year old mare. Jockey Joel Rosario is continuing to build his reputation as a nice West Coast jockey and trainer Mike Mitchell does very well with these types of horses. The one knock is that Mitchell puts Whatsitgonnatake up for the claim in this race. Is that a sign that she’s ready to go off form?

Lochinvar’s Gold - - 9/2 morning line

Daughter of Seeking the Gold won her last race, a $59,000 allowance, by a nose. She will find this group somewhat tougher and the inside post means that jockey Tyler Baze will have to make a quick decision early on in this race. Should he send or pray for an opening at the top of the stretch? She’s a serious player either way.

Wagering Strategy

I’m going to place an online wager on Queen of the Catsle to win and place as well as putting into exacta and trifecta boxes with Whatsitgonnatake and Lochinvar’s Gold.
