The Barclays Tournament Matchups - Tiger vs. Phil and more

The best in golf begin the quest for the FedEx Cup this week when the Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, New Jersey hosts The Barclays.
Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Padraig Harrington will all be there to show their best stuff in The Barclays. Also there will be last year’s FedEx Cup and The Barclays winner, Vijay Singh.
Let’s take a look at some of the more interesting tournament matchups in The Barclays.
Golf: The Barclays Tournament Matchups
1. Padraig Harrington +325 vs. Tiger Woods -450 - - Paddy has it in his head that he can’t beat Tiger, but the odds on Woods are just too short for me to go with him. One of these days, Harrington is going to beat Woods. I just have to believe it. At +325, believing is easier.
Pick: Padraig Harrington
2. Phil Mickelson Ev vs. Hunter Mahan -130 - - Mahan is getting a lot of press in the run up to the Playoffs, but Mickelson is a member of Liberty National. That means that Lefty knows the course inside and out. Phil had his two bad tournaments after coming back to the PGA Tour. He won’t have a third bad tourney in a row. I expect him to beat Mahan in this matchup at the better odds.
Pick: Phil Mickelson
3. Kenny Perry Ev vs. Steve Stricker -130 - - I’ve often written that Kenny Perry is one of my favorite golfers on the PGA Tour, but like most smart gamblers, I throw favoritism out the window when it comes to making money. Stricker is just primed to make a FedEx Cup Championship run and Perry slowed down some since his earlier play this year. This is a tough matchup, bit I’m going with Stricker.
Pick: Steve Stricker
4. Ernie Els -115 vs. Vijay Singh -115 - - The two old pros are going off at the same odds in the BetUS online sportsbook in their matchup. I like Els some, but Singh has won The Barclays in two of the past three years. Singh has been waiting for this week. He won’t disappoint.
Pick: Vijay Singh
5. Padraig Harrington -150 vs. Phil Mickelson +120 - - This could prove to be the best wager on the board. Like Paddy versus Tiger, Paddy versus Mickelson requires bettors to go with the golfer getting the betters odds. In this case, that’s Lefty. Mickelson is a member of Liberty National. That makes him an expert on the course. At the odds, he has to be the play.
Pick: Phil Mickelson
6. Phil Mickelson +375 vs. Tiger Woods -550 - - Is there any doubt who should win this matchup? Is there any doubt who is the better wager based on the odds? We shouldn’t forget that Lefty finished ahead of Tiger in both the Masters and the U.S. Open. If Lefty has found his swing, and he should have this being his third tournament off of the vacation, then he’s a seriously good play in this matchup.
Pick: Phil Mickelson
7. Hunter Mahan -125 vs. Steve Stricker -105 - - This is another matchup where the odds should dictate where gamblers go. Mahan and Stricker could both be superstars this week or errand boys. It just depends on how their swing is going. Both have had good success in 2009 but Stricker has won a FedEx Cup event, the first, and Mahan has not. Stricker should be ultra-tough this week. At the odds, he’s the bet.
Pick: Steve Stricker
