The Masters is in the books.  It’s time for betting fans to move on to the Verizon Heritage where some terrific wagering opportunities await.

Golf is such a difficult sport to find a winner that gamblers have to look to place wagers on some of the props that the sportsbook offers.

One such prop is betting a golfer to win in assigned groups.

Let’s take a look at each group that the sportsbook has created for gamblers to find a winner.

Golf:  Verizon Heritage 72 Hole Group Betting

Group A:  Jim Furyk +250, Camilo Villegas +300, Paul Casey +350, Rory McIlroy +350, Ernie Els +350

Analysis:  The pick is Casey at +350.  Furyk had a fantastic Masters to finish -7 and only 5 strokes off of the winner, but Casey won the Shell Houston Open the week before.  Not only that but Casey hasn’t missed the cut in a single tournament this year and he’s finished in the top ten in 50% of those tournaments.  Villegas is good but he can be awful at times and McIlroy has only 1 top ten finish to his credit in five tournaments.  Els shouldn’t have a shot in this group.

Group B:  Aaron Baddeley +300, Boo Weekley +325, Stewart Cink +325, Robert Allenby +350, Davis Love +350

Analysis:  Because all of these golfers are so evenly matched it makes sense to take a golfer that’s going off at better than expected odds.  That golfer in this group is Davis Love who skipped the Masters and goes into the Verizon Heritage fresh.  Love has been playing well with 1 top ten finish and 7 cuts made out of 9 tournaments.  He’s ranked 13th in greens hit in regulation.  The bet is Love at +350.

Group C:  Zach Johnson +300, Kevin Na +300, Tim Clark +300, Justin Leonard +325, Luke Donald +325

Analysis:  At first this looks like a difficult group as well, but I believe that Kevin Na is a stand-out.  Na has made the cut in 7 out of 9 tournaments and has finished in the top ten in 4 of those.  Leonard, of course, is always tough and Tim Clark did win the 3-Par tournament at Augusta last week.  Zach Johnson already has a tournament win, but Na skipped the Masters to prepare for this.  Na is the bet at +300.

Group D:   Lucas Glover +300, Charley Hoffman +300, John Senden +300, Matt Kuchar +300, Scott Verplank +300

Analysis:  Talk about a tough group!  There isn’t a long shot amongst the four golfers in Group D.  So, how do we decide which golfer has the best shot?  We decide which golfing category means the most in the tournament and even then we’re taking a guess.  My guess is Charley Hoffman who is ranked 3rd in greens hit in regulation.  If a guy can get on the greens, he usually has lots of birdie puts which is why Hoffman is also ranked 10th in the number of birdies he puts into the hole in each round.  I’ll go with Hoffman at +300.

Group E:  Jonathan Byrd +300, Ben Crane +300, Steve Flesch +300, Bo Van Pelt +300

Analysis:  Ben Crane should be the favorite in this because even though he can miss the cut. He’s 5 out of 8 so far this year but when he’s on, he’s tough.  In the 5 tournaments he has made the cut in, Crane has finished in the top ten in 2 of them.  He also finished 11th in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.  Crane is the bet at +300.
