Past champions Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, and Joey Sindelar will all be in the field for the Wachovia Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina this week, but the tournament favorite for the $6.4 million event is, not surprisingly, Tiger Woods.
Woods hasn’t played since he teed it up at The Masters, but the oddsmakers at BetUS.com have him listed as the big +225 favorite in North Carolina this week. Furyk, the 2006 Wachovia champion, is listed at +2200 odds, while 2005 champ Singh is pegged at +1600 odds. Unheralded Sindelar is not currently listed, while the only other past champion (David Toms --- 2003) withdrew from the tournament on Monday.
Who else is getting top odds to win the Wachovia this week? Phil Mickelson is second to Woods on the list at +1400 odds, with Ernie Els at +2000, and each of Luke Donald, Retief Goosen, and Adam Scott at +2500 odds. Geoff Ogilvy rounds out the first tier of golfers at +3000 odds. Here are the rest of the top contenders to get the win this week:

Woods might be favored, but it’s Singh who currently leads the PGA Tour’s FedExCup standings. Singh has 12,802 points compared to Woods’ 12,098. Charles Howell III (+6000 at the Wachovia) is currently in third place in those standings, following by Mickelson, and John Rollins (who has three Top-10s in 2007).
After competing at Quail Hollow Club the golfers of the PGA Tour will go to TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for The Players Championship. Stephen Ames won that event last year, and it’ll feature a purse of $8 million. The rest of the tour’s May schedule features the AT&T Classic, the Crowne Plaza Invitational and The Memorial.
