Tiger Looks to Regain Some Stature at The Barclays

The first of the four FedEx Playoff Events is this week with The Barclays. Held at the Liberty National Facility in New Jersey, NJ, The Barclays will not only be the starting point for the FedEx Cup Playoffs but it will also offer a purse of $7,500,000.
There’s a lot at stake for some of the golfers who are eligible to win this year’s FedEx Cup. For the BetUS favorite, Tiger Woods, a chance to redeem himself after losing a lead to Y.E. Yang in the PGA Championship presents itself this week in the first playoff event of the FedEx Cup Championship.
El Tigre would like nothing more than to end any doubt on the PGA Tour that he has lost the magnanimous touch that he appeared to have when winning a major every year since 2005. Tiger’s streak was broken this year and as golf’s ultimate ambassador it is his duty to play in the four FedEx Cup Championship events. It is his hope that he will win it.
Tiger is going to face some tough competition this week in The Barclays as Vijay Singh, who won the FedEx Cup last year, has two victories at The Barclays in the past three years. Singh won in 2006 and 2008 and no doubt would love to win it again in 2009. In fact, golfing fans can rest assured that Singh has used most of 2009 to prepare for these next four events. Vijay will be tough this week.
The winner of the Barclays in 2007 was Steve Stricker. Stricker, who is ranked in the top four in the FedEx Cup Standings, has to be considered a logical contender. Stricker is second to Tiger in the standings and no doubt has circled these next four weeks as a time to shine.
Besides Tiger, Vijay and Stricker, Phil Mickelson and Camillo Villegas both deserve consideration. Villegas was fantastic in last years FedEx Cup Playoffs and Lefty no doubt would like nothing more than to turn what has been a bad 2009 into a good one by taking home the FedEx Cup.
It all starts this week in the Barclays where one or two golfers are going to get a leg up on the competition. Can Tiger dominate golf again and prove to golfing fans that he is still the king of the hill? Will Phil Mickelson prove that he still has it after a tumultuous 2009? Will Vijay Singh show that last year’s FedEx Cup victory wasn’t fluke or will Camilo Villegas finally grasp the trophy that was almost his in last year’s FedEx Cup Playoffs?
Stay tuned and enjoy The Barclays this week.
