The oddsmakers at BetUS have come up with so many props for the first round and beyond of this week’s Master’s at Augusta that it is tough to decide which ones to write about.
One of the more interesting is the 3-Balls 1st Round, where they list three golfers and you pick whichever one will do best in Thursday’s first-round action. There is good reason to believe you can find good value in a few of these head-to-head-to-head matchups, but the one involving Tiger Woods in the first round looks especially appealing this year.
Woods is matched up with young, rising star Paul Casey. Casey, in his 7th year as a pro, is on pace to soon remind fans of Sergio Garcia and Adam Scott when those two first stepped up to challenge the big name players.
Also playing in this group is Aaron Baddeley, another 7th-year pro, highly touted as a teen, but overshadowed by his fellow Australian countryman, Adam Scott.
Woods (-150) is, of course, favored to have the best first-round score in this group. The reason I think Casey (+250) and Baddeley (+350) are better bets, in this case, is that Tiger’s first-round scores at Augusta have not been stellar, especially as of late. The past four Masters, his first-round scores are: 72, 74, 75 and 76.
Hardly the stuff of legend. In fact, in his 12 Masters tournaments, Woods has never shot below a first-round 70, and has only four times gone under par.
With this prop, you could even bet on both Casey AND Baddeley to beat Tiger in the first round and still come out having made money; albeit a little less than if you choose the one who will beat Tiger.
